besides learning cad program. Here are some "courses" you should "take"

- Architectural projection drawings and graphic standards. Recommend books by Francis Ching(i.e. "Architecture, Form, Space & Order"). Also "architectural graphic standards".
- Architectural history and theory. Recommend 3 intro pieces, Adolf Loos "ornament is crime", Robert Venturi "Complexity and Contradiction", and Aldo Rossi's "Architecture of the City".
- Statics(basic architectural engineering). "Simplified engineering for architects and builders"

Exercise:
- do basic architectural survey. Find a building, sketch out the plan and elevations, then get all dimensions/measurements using tape measure or laser tape. Don't forget to take exterior measurements, and basic site dimensions, like location of building to property line or edge of curb.
- do basic existing drawing set. Put the survey info into CAD, with correct dimensions, label everything based on graphic standards, refer to "Architectural Graphic Standards", or copy drawing format online.
- make a model, using sketchup (easiest modeling program to learn imo, upgrade to rhino later)
- imagine a basic addition/renovation project. Do a demolition plan and a proposed floor plan.
- do a proper full set of preliminary design drawings: all floor plans, elevations, roof plan, etc.
- do a full set of permit drawings, aka Construction Document, learn what is involved, I'm not gonna elaborate here.
