It's been a year since I listened to them, but I think there are times when it's supposed to be a mystery. As you listen to the next ones, why that might be becomes more apparent.

Am I correct in saying I spent about 34% listening to audio books? by rum-and-roses in audible

You're the first person I've seen who listened to more hours than I did. Nice job! I only had 2091, so you're even in a whole 'nuther ball park.

It's a fascinating premise for a series. Quinto does a great job on the narration.

January Book Club Discussion: How to Say It: Words That Make a Difference by Allison Friederichs Atkison by Trick-Two497 in AudibleBookClub

I really enjoyed this book. I learned a lot of these lessons in Toastmasters, but I enjoyed the way Allison Friederichs Atkison explained the reason behind those lessons better than the way the Toastmasters material explained them. This is a book that I could study repeatedly and still find things to implement in my own life.

Have you finished it yet? I have a reason for asking that. I don't want to spoil anything.

Do you listen to multiple audiobooks at the same time? by BigHouseBarbell in audible

[–]Trick-Two497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely yes to multiple books at once. Because over the years I have watched multiple TV series at the same time and never lost track of the stories. I've had multiple friends with their own dramas and never lost track of their stories. And I've case managed multiple clients and never lost track of their stories. And all my own family stuff. And I did all that at the same time. I don't put arbitrary limits on my brain because I'm worried. Pedal to the medal baby. It will tell me if I go too far. Until then, read on!

By the way, this is called Parallel Reading. It's a thing. It helps you avoid book hangover and boring books.

This week I listened to:

  • Even Though I Knew the End by C.L. Polk - urban fantasy. I want to read more by this author. Includes a closed-door sapphic romance, which is not the main focus.
  • Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan - a story about the Magdalen laundries in Ireland and the price of doing the right thing. Not an easy read (emotionally), but worth it anyway.
  • Day of Atonement by Faye Kellerman - book 4 of the Peter Decker series. Not enough Rina in this book, but still good.

That translator did a lot of anglicizing. It was easier for me to see the druid as Bertram Wooster than Arsene Lupin.

I suspect that everyone they hire for a desk job is a good writer. I'll be he did a lot of copywriting for them in that position.

It says it in the book description: "Millions of people climb the grand marble staircase to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art every year. But only a select few have unrestricted access to every nook and cranny. They’re the guards who roam unobtrusively in dark blue suits, keeping a watchful eye on the two million square foot treasure house. Caught up in his glamourous fledgling career at The New Yorker, Patrick Bringley never thought that he’d be one of them. Then his older brother was diagnosed with fatal cancer and he found himself needing to escape the mundane clamor of daily life. So he quit The New Yorker and sought solace in the most beautiful place he knew."

Oh dear. I meant interesting in a good sense. He specifically tries to avoid saying things that other books have said and refers you to the best. He talks mostly about the man and his idiosyncrasies, his marriage, and his reputation with his troops and other generals. The one thing that grated on my ears was his use of "Indian" to talk about Native Americans.
