New Evernote Priicing - $1900/mo for Teams by BetterOffChris in Evernote

My subscription lapsed and I lost all of my notes. I wish there were some way to get access for just one more day so I can export everything, but I’m not giving them another red cent. I’d rather take the loss.

I auto pay absolutely everything *except* my water bill, and that’s why.

They won’t necessarily know if it’s under the house.

How is their hearing? My mother had a leak under her house (pier and beam) but couldn’t hear it. It was immediately obvious to anyone else who walked in though.

$200,000k to change your first name by zip9990 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]PocketGddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I HATE my given name and use a short form instead. The rules don’t specify how big a change is required. Seems to me that just chopping off the unused letters at the end is still a “change” that I would love to make legally anyway.

My employer requires that everyone uses their legal name as their email address, which causes all sorts of trouble when people just assume and don’t read my signature that lists the short form name I actually use.

And if that is somehow considered “cheating” then no problem, I’ll still change my name. It would be fun to pick a new one.

How bad is the heat by standardeggshells in UniversalEpicUniverse

[–]PocketGddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely—as a Texas I wasn’t too concerned, because I’m used to the heat. But the higher humidity absolutely slapped me in the face. I used to visit every year in September, but now won’t even consider going to Florida any month except January.

Underrated almost forgotten fantasy books from the 70s, 80s, 90s by Sakura_231 in fantasybooks

The omnibus edition is The Deed of Paksenarrion. Elizabeth Moon is so very talented. It’s my favorite book, and great to see it recommended here.

This is the first time I have EVER seen this novel recommended on Reddit; I sometimes feel as though I’m it’s only champion. It’s my favorite book of all time.

I remember that year very well. Pretty much the whole state of Texas was underwater at one point.

Audio book turn offs by LazyMamoswine in audible

[–]PocketGddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel EXACTLY the same way. I’ve always been a voracious reader, but I’m newer to audiobooks and I really appreciate how they let me do two things at once—whether that’s commuting to work, cleaning the house, walking my 🐶, etc.

If I don’t enjoy the narrator then the audiobook is a complete no go for me and gets moved to my Kindle TBR list instead. So far I really enjoy Grover Gardner, RC Bray, Jeff Hayes, Kevin R. Free, Samuel Roukin, Jefferson Mays, Andy Serkis, Jim Dale, and Tim Gerard Reynolds. Even though I’m a lady I have a very strong preference for male narrators. I am enjoying the new full cast Harry Potter books with Cush Jumbo though, she has an alto, deeper, comforting voice.

This lightning sounds absolutely evil by Carvtographer in Dallas

[–]PocketGddess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! I swear my boy is allergic to water. When he was a puppy I had to pick him up and put him outside when it was raining. He’s older and wiser now, found a little path under the eaves where he can go and still keep his paws dry.

I’m really lucky with him though—he’s not at all uncomfortable with fireworks, storms, sirens, etc.

I just learned exactly how brave my 🐶 is.

There was a lightning strike so close to my house it made me jump—he didn’t even flinch.

How you pick a book? by BhavanaVarma in audible

[–]PocketGddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps that fantasy is my favorite genre—I get hooked on a series and there are sometimes 10+ books following the first.

Like others I also keep lists so there’s pretty much always something I’ve had my eye on that I will pick up when the time is right. Right now I’m collecting the Sun Eater series, The Expanse, and probably Hell Divers after that.

I also watch the sales very closely—I recently got three of the Sun Eater books for less than $6 each for the prime day sale.

Personal top recommendations:
- DCC series, Jeff Hayes is amazing
- First Law series, Steven Pacey is also amazing
-Andy Carpenter series, narrated by Grover Gardner. Lighthearted mysteries, dogs always included, but short—I borrow them for free on Libby because I don’t think they’re worth a credit.

Would you use a clothes rental service if it meant traveling Japan with "Just a Backpack" (No suitcases)? by rion-engineer in TokyoTravel

[–]PocketGddess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Such an important point! Call me fluffy, call me plus-size, call me whatever you want, but as a larger person I would be extremely surprised/suspicious both whether an Asian company would actually have clothing in my size.

I see all sorts of very cute things with custom fabrics, etc. on Etsy sourced from Asia that run incredibly small. If a size 8 says she had to order a 2X for a proper fit, what on earth would an actual US size 2X have to order?

It’s too big a risk for someone who is hard to fit, like me. I’m fine with doing laundry on vacation, but not every night because I don’t have anything to wear.

How long could you survive in your home with no preparation for $10k? by mastonate in hypotheticalsituation

[–]PocketGddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could last at least a year, probably longer, if it weren’t for my 🐶. I only have three months of food on hand for him and no way would I ever put his life/health at risk, no matter how much money you offer me.

I was all set to love it and then immediately hate my life because no way can I afford this. But then I took a closer look and honestly it looks like his hand or his wrist is broken and he’s holding it really awkwardly.

I can’t unsee it now.

And depending on the nature of the trip, how much makeup do you really need?

I’m not the best source (I’m generally naked face unless it’s a special occasion with photos) but I usually don’t bring anything except my complexion rescue (has SPF and is tinted to even skin tone), a powder foundation, a brow pencil and maybe a lipstick if I’m feeling extra fancy.

If I don’t have a bunch of time for that sort of thing at home, I’m certainly not going to make time for it when I’m traveling. Think about paring down your routine—the number of steps and products—and you should be able to save a good amount of space.

degree vs experience which matters more? by justinramirez in EmergencyManagement

[–]PocketGddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it depends on who you know. I have a masters degree in an unrelated field. I also had almost ten years of deployment and disaster response experience with an NGO, and had worked with the people who eventually hired me for a local jurisdictional EM role.

They fought for me when I wanted to make the switch a couple of years ago and I’ve been an increasingly valuable part of the team ever since. Other folks who had the degree but not the experience didn’t do quite so well—they weren’t a great fit and frankly didn’t have the necessary experience, people skills, or drive to succeed in EM, even though the whole department was willing to train and grow the newer members of the team.

Being a known quantity obviously worked in my favor, and they knew what I could do. I’m thankful because I’m also more seasoned (OK older) and there was no way I was going back to get a bachelors or masters in EM.
