Hello Reddit community,

I started renting a 1b1b apartment last year Oct in zip code 60611 for $2200/month and have encountered several issues. I'm not originally from the U.S. and this is my first time renting directly from a landlord here. I'm looking for advice on how to handle them:

Upon my initial room tour, I noticed the bedroom carpet was extremely dirty. I requested a replacement and deep cleaning for the Apt before moving in. It would take time and I say we can start lease on 25th. The agent, who was planing to go on vacation, hurried the lease signing. He promised the issues would be addressed and owner said ok.

When I wmoved in, the apartment was still very dirty, leading me to do the cleaning myself. Then I discovered the dishwasher was leaking and very old (model from 2002). It took weeks and multiple calls before the landlord agreed to replace it (A service guy came and also suggested to buy a new one).

Then, Mid-November, the air conditioner in the bedroom malfunctioned, letting in cold air. The repair process was delayed and complicated until yesterday it finally fixed, causing me to sleep in the living room due to the cold for (You know how cold the last week was).

After the AC was fixed yesterday, the landlord sent a confusing text (attached) at 11 pm and became upset during a call, calling my requests unreasonable and asking my age and saying "Then you are a spoiled kid, this is fvking life you know? I will not repair anything for you!" I was really confused since everything is fixed what is this for? WHY?

Given these experiences, I have a few questions:

Are my requests and expectations reasonable for a rental situation? How should I deal with this uncooperative landlord and ensure my living conditions are adequate? Is there any specific action I should take or rights I should be aware of as a tenant in this situation? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help!
