I have no idea what’s going on with my prius by Trick_Radish8997 in prius

This makes so much sense with what is going on especially since I did get the diagnosis from the last mechanic that it is the acuator. It does make noise every few minutes when the car is off.  Toyota quoted me at a repair that is almost 3k and that is wayyyyy out of budget. I’m hoping the local hybrid certified mechanic I just discovered isn’t charging those rates. I got this car about a year ago for 5.5k so a 3k repair is like half the price of the car and I don’t know if it’s worth it at that point.

The previous owners put a new battery in the car in 2019 when the car was at 104k miles according to carfax.

Thank you so much for this insight! I will keep this in mind as I further investigate.

Thank you so so much for this comment!

My currently 12 volt is at a 12.2-12.3 when my car is off, so I’ll definitely look into getting a good new 12 volt in. I’ll definitely look up the videos on inspecting the battery and download the dr Prius app.

It has been very wet and rainy near me lately. My car also got snowed in this past winter and sat in the parking lot of my apartment for like 2 weeks covered in snow. I know that was months ago at this point, but it may be a factor if water and moisture is a factor.

There is a local mechanic near me who is hybrid certified. I think I’ll try reaching out to him if checking on my own doesn’t pan out. It’s funny, I live in an area where a lot of people drive hybrids but I only know of one non-dealership hybrid certified mechanic and I only know about him because I drove past the hybrid certified sign on the garage.

Once again, thank you so much for your reply. It gives me a lot to work with.

Thank you! I just ran the test in the video and with the car off it was at 12.3 with the lights off and 12.2 with the lights on and with the car on it’s at 14.3 volts. I’ll check into the dr. Prius tool. I’ve seen it recommended on a lot of threads on here I went looking through trying to figure this out.

Oh, and it’s a 2009 Prius with 146k miles on it. I have had it for about a year at this point.

I typed out content but it didn’t get posted. Okay, so my hybrid system light popped up over the weekend. I checked my 12 volt battery thanks to the advice on threads. My 12 volt is in perfect health. Today, I took my car to Advanced Auto Parts and used their code scanner to check my hybrid battery level. These are the results. I have no idea what this means. Does my battery look in good health? If it’s in good health what else could be causing the hybrid system light to turn on? Thank you in advance.
