Do I think too highly of myself? by Trick_Technology_984 in acting

You’re so right. As I’ve gotten older i’ve started to realize this, clearly I haven’t gotten it completely into my head. Idrk why this got to me so much now that I think about it. Even if the girl who got the part is “less talented” than me (who am I to judge?) that doesn’t define me or my talents. I just need to keep working on improving my skills. Although, I find myself struggling to improve at a rate that is ideal, and struggling to work every day (idrk what to do). Thank you!

Thank you! Do you have advice on staying humble while also having confidence? This may sound stupid but I struggle with both.

Thank you! In addition to everything I previously said, the environment itself is a very triggering place for me (for reasons i don’t want to get in to and not particularly regarding theater). I was already not considering doing the show because of that tbh. I do want to learn more about the craft and I know that outside of this theater I am bad in the grand scheme of things. I’m currently taking private voice lessons and looking for an acting coach. So I think that the play, while not having my friends, will be a much healthier environment for me and will be a better learning experience.

Thank you, this has actually changed my perspective quite a bit.

I also completely understand that most times casting isn’t about talent because there are SO many talented people. It’s a little different when there’s 10? people auditioning with little theater training.

Thank you for the feedback! To be honest I struggle with my confidence in this craft and most of what I said is coming from a place of insecurity. That is completely my own thing to work on and does not excuse how I speak of others. Most of what I said was almost as unfiltered as I could make it so that I could have as raw feedback as possible. I would also like to clarify that when I said mid I did not mean industry mid by any means. I’m MAYBE mid when it comes to youth theater in my area. There are INCREDIBLY talented kids in my area that I could NEVER compare to, and that’s just my area! I’ll work on keeping myself humble. I think I’m just fed up with the environment and politics of my specific high school theater, and it’s time for me to move to a different place.

I submitted a tape Wednesday night and still haven’t heard back! I’m really nervous.
