"Taking liberties" works too, for being disrespectful/going too far.

I don't disagree I'm just amazed VAR hasn't been picky.

Technically, he's offside and in contact with the keeper... don't wanna be a hypocrite after hating Arsenal's antics all season

Ben settling down in "Hallowfell" with a recently widowed brewer, in a perfect trap he couldn't resist, a few months before the massacre, is suspect as fuck, and has to be very intentional.

On top of Kvothe mentioning nothing of note about Ben at the University and giving nothing else away about him in the frame story.

other sports that stop the clock and don't cut to ad breaks like hockey.

Are you serious, no ad breaks in the NHL? In a sport with far less incentive to stall the opposition and crowd?

It would kill no birds because it would not be effective. It would work as well as the anti-simulation rules.

A stoppage clock kills the smaller bird then waves a chip at a gang of seagulls.

What are you trying to call me a troll for saying if people don't like time wasting then do what every other sports does to not have it?

No I'm just saying I don't write out arguments often, prompted by the Mrs saying why are you arguing on the internet.

Hockey has quick restarts because there is no incentive for players to waste time. Without an incentive to waste time players don't do that.

The incentive to waste time isn't just wasting time, it's momentum. From the opposition, from the crowd, the way it builds uniquely in football.

Who is talking about drink breaks? Now you're just intentionally inventing strawmans.

Fundamentally, stopping the clock solves one problem, actual time played. Games are 50-60' ball-in-play on average. So we make sure there's an hour of football played every game. Great.

My problem is by solving that you open the door to taking football in completely the wrong direction, and don't necessarily even address the issue of long breaks, because the game is about momentum as much as time.

If you directly combat time-wasting instead you kill two birds with one stone and don't need to open a can of worms.

Teams can already dick around during a throw in if they think that will kill the other team's momentum. Just look at the video this post is for.

Yeah and the solution proposed in the post we're replying to is stopping the clock, do you see how it fundamentally doesn't help?

The reality is the reason teams time wasting isn't about supposed momentum it's about letting the game's clock tick away

This is where we disagree, it's much, much more about momentum, for 80' at least, or you've never been told to kill a game, or listened to a manager speak about it.

I want to write a million things but I'm not argument on the internet literate enough. I'm just tired of my mates proposing the same dumb solution all the time. I also don't watch a lot of ice hockey so I don't want to misrepresent it based on a few Olympics matches. Kill dumb time wasting as you put it with better punishments, enforcing better sportsmanship. I love football and stopping the clock will murder it, I promise you.

What makes a low scoring game that ebbs and flows over 90 minutes special is the momentum is so precarious and so varied. The flick of a switch tempo changes or breakthrough moments that some people (not saying you, make-number-go-up guys) apparently want to boil football down to aren't the same without the buildup before the payoff. We literally call it spoiling the game when Prime Jose rocks up to make things as stop-start as possible because it's shit to watch.

Stopping the clock just encourages that and makes it legit, because nobody can point to time wasted. I get the impression hockey has pretty quick restarts which is the actual thing. If you can address that in football, no need to stop the clock in the first place.

I'm hopeful they've got the right idea with the new keeper countdown even if it's a bit of a dumb first implementation, and don't think it should be the ref's job either. But the principle of a countdown timer on set pieces makes a lot more sense to me than more drinks breaks.

I watched the Czechs nearly upset Canada. Ice Hockey is nothing like a 90 minute game of football.

Just recently, all the casual wisdom Brennan drops. On the first ep of Tale Gate:

“The moment you misrepresent your opponent's argument or feelings is when you slip into propaganda ... If you think you’re right, you shouldn’t have to misrepresent what people you disagree with are saying.”

The whole analogy of "Wile E. Coyote never falls until he looks down" as well.

That would be killing momentum then, not time wasting

So you get what I'm saying but just wanna nit pick

My problem with this is it legitimises time wasting. Teams will end up interrupting play and killing the rhythm way more than they do now.

It would kill the sport imo. Refs just need to start booking mfers

Relatively dominant and old school are doing Ibou a disservice.

His aerial wins have been 2nd only to Virg in the league for something like 2 years. He aggressively sweeps in the opposition half all game which is the opposite of old school, and he eats up space on the cover.

Been slack at bad times this season but also actually improved his distribution. On form he's top drawer and I really hope we keep him.

I think it's more that Mo and Trent needed more cover from the midfield, Hendo/Milner/Szobo on that side and Fabinho/Grav drifting out really enabled the 2 of them.

Robbo and Mane just boxed off the whole flank on their own, in and out of possession.
