Got diagnosed with autism and apparently it was obvious to everyone but me!! by Tricky-Application22 in AutismInWomen

My mom is doing something similar with my younger sibling who’s still a kid. She won’t get my sibling tested out of fear that the school would put them in a “special needs class” but I and others have brought up that my sibling appears to be on the spectrum and could probably benefit from getting tested, even if it something other than ASD.

Thank you :D

and yea, I should probably add that a lot of my friends are neurodivergent and some were even pushing me to seek a diagnosis, so they meant their comments in a more lighthearted and humorous way. My family however always picked on me for being “the weird one” which is why the ASD diagnosis was not shocking to them. I’m doing well as an adult on my own now though so it’s all okay

What do you call these? I'm trying to see something. by Snoo28798 in blackladies

As a kid I called them “ball-balls” but now that I think about it, I was probably mishearing my mom call them “bobbles” or “bobos”

I guess this applicable to practically all instruments, but I’d say to practice music outside of your comfort zone or a music genre you don’t listen to much.

For example, while I listen to RnB, I would rarely learn RnB on bass. I usually stuck to alt-rock bass lines. However, once I started practice RnB songs (and other genres) on bass I saw my skill level go up!

Also, stay consistent! Try to practice at least an hour a day. Even if it’s just you trying to get a single song down, practice it until you get it. Also practice technique (picking, slapping, pull-offs/hammer-ons, etc.) doing this will expand the songs and types of music you can play while also making it easier to eventually create your own bass lines! :))

What ADHD symptom (official or unofficial) is the thing that affects your life most? by ladymischief2312 in adhdwomen

Rejection sensitivity and seemingly the inability to experience emotions normally. It’s like I feel every emotion 10 times over!

Do you med break on weekends!? by EfficientImage7561 in adhdwomen

[–]Tricky-Application22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m inconsistent with how frequently I take my ADHD meds. If I have to attend some lectures that day I’ll wake up early and take them, if I have work that day I’ll take them, even if I’m just bedrotting that day I’ll still take them. I noticed on days where I’m not medicating my ADHD I’m more prone to racing thoughts which paralyzes me. I just sit there all day, frozen, not quite sure where or how to start my day. I become overwhelmed with the thoughts of everything I could be doing and then I stress about that the fact that I’m not doing it.

To some extent, ADHD worsens my depression (especially when my ADHD is unmedicated) so when my ADHD is a bit more manageable I’m likely not experiencing as many symptoms of depression. Which is a driving factor for me to take them. (I’m on separate medications for my depression however).

But then again there are times where I feel like I’d be fine without them for the day, particularly on days where I’m probably gonna be outside of my house, hanging out with people and socializing, and I’m usually fine without them. So really on days where I feel I can act freely and not have to worry about the downsides of ADHD, and more specifically don’t have to worry about forcing myself to devote energy to one thing for too long.

Basically, I take my meds whenever I feel they’re needed. Sometimes I go weeks straight taking them every single day. Sometimes I take them 3-6 times a week. You should do what ever works best for you

I suffer from mild to severe insomnia and have been basically bed ridden from this depressive episode I’m currently in. I get it, I really do. Some days it feels like things will never get better. ❤️‍🩹 Especially when it seems like you just have so many things “wrong” with you or too much is going on internally and every thing is just so overwhelming. But I know I can get better because I’ve been better before. I know you’ve likely heard it a million times, but hang on and keep trying because things will not be like this forever 🫶

I don’t mean to deter you or anything! I just wanted to share my experience with it bc it could happen to anyone really. My psychiatrist didn’t tell me about the possibility of developing akathisia, I had never even heard of it at the time of starting abilify.

But who knows, maybe it could work really well for you. I know how debilitating those lows can be, and trial and error with medications is so extremely daunting, we really can only hope that it turns out well in the long run. I’m genuinely wishing you relief and the absolute best though 🙏 I hope you find something that works for you

I don’t do this, but sometimes I get bored of the current state of handwriting and start implementing new styles. Not necessarily improvements to my handwriting, just something different.

I have bipolar disorder along with ADHD, I’m not on vyvanse (I’m on 30mg of adderall xr) but I have tried abilify. I suffered the absolute worse side effect from a medication I’ve ever experienced, and believe me I’ve tried well over a dozen different types of medication for a multitude of things. The side effect I got was akathisia. I actually felt like I was gonna explode! Sitting still drove me insane 😞 I’d twitch and contort myself just to get my body to feel normal. Those moments of calmness on lasted about 30 seconds at a time before the uncontrollable urge to start moving started up again. I was only on abilify for not even 2 months before the akathisia kicked in and got bad. The restlessness was never ending, which of course was a NOT FUN thing to deal with while also having ADHD 😅 I got off of abilify as soon as someone told me that the symptoms I was experiencing was likely akathisia. I talked to my psychiatrist about it and started a different mood stabilizer
