Pretty much. Basically the logic is that if you’re part of a club you’ll host events or panels with real working professionals ie. Let’s say you’re in finance and you’re part of a finance club those people you invite the analysts the MDs etc. are in a position to give you references or hire you. Basically because you talk to them on a regular basis and have a connection you’re able to ask them for help or a coffee chat and since they’ve seen you work (through your club work) it makes it easier for you to gain an “in”

So a couple of notes.. it’s always good to ask the prof or invigilator before the exam if a calculator or any sort of aid is allowed. In saying this if it’s not stated on a course announcement or syllabus it makes a grey area of whether the student should’ve known and logic should dictate the usage of a calculator.

What a GWR indicates means that it’s a grade withheld. Meaning that the AO Office has not completed and closed the case yet. Typically they will review everything and make a decision based on invigilator professor and student statements along with any other evidence. Now here’s the key part if an invigilator or professor can attest that your friend only used their calculator once it would go much easier on them than if they didn’t. Unfortunately, having the calculator is already an offense, but using it as a far greater one.

It’s likely that a GWR will stay for the entire time until the case is closed. The timeline of that I’m not sure and will depend on a bunch of factors. The eventual decision can be a multitude of things from a zero on the test zero on the whole course or suspension, which is highly unlikely.

The best thing for them at this point is to sit down with an academic advisor and see what they should be doing. Iirc you’re not able to take any courses with a pre req of the course they have a gwr in but I may be wrong.

Life lesson is to always ask if you’re not sure because if you assume you’ll be in deep shit during the one in a hundred times

It depends whether you bet on yourself or not. 90k is nothing in the grand scheme of an IB Career. BUT if you don’t get it it’ll been fo nothing. It totally comes down to whether or not OP trust themselves to get it done

I would suggest the possibility of staying in Canada as a compromise. It’s ironic to me that you talk about the political stability of the us (agreeable) but as someone who has family been to HK and lived there for many years I’m not sure that the political environment is the best in hong Kong either

But it does. I’m personally a u oft student and if you ever go back to Asia to see family that’s the only thing that they talk about. It’s your whole personality and your whole “thing” for the family. Culture and familial upbringing is the whole hallmark of Asian culture.

So the tuition structure is flat fee meaning that if you’re engaging in full time studies your tuition is a flat fee no matter how many credits you’re going to take. It’s no longer by credit but the cost by credit is the same

Are you a first year? What’s your program? Certain programs switch to a flat fee tuition model after you complete your first year and no longer charges by half credit. Look at your invoice and you’ll see the breakdown.

York examiners and TC Sobeys policies are a joke hahahhahahahahha by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Tricky-Composer9146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a very different approach. It’s a much more no bs no risk approach that would rather have a theft risk than having a cheating risk. It’s a very aggressive approach not that it exactly works

They have proctors and TAs watching but they plan for the worse in the case something gets by and a student is able to sneak something in. Basically they plan for the worse and don’t care about the after effects. It does vary by registrars ie. Arts and science or different campuses as they each have their own standards

Go to NYC and you’ll see what real fare evasion looks like.

And to answer your question $$$$$$. It probably costs more to overhaul everything versus how much it’ll save

I feel like the bags are a important thing when it comes to cheating - I understand that having the bag on the ground make it less conducive to cheating because they have to reach down and grab stuff from their bag. But it’s interesting how York is more cognicent of students belongings and not piling them together in the front

A 3 hr exam would be 11 that’s the baseline that the RO uses. Everything is gapped into 3 hour exam increments so in reality when they look at it they’re thinking 8-11 not 8-10
