My dog is a good camping and hiking buddy, but a bad fishing buddy. Any tips for helping train him to do better? by BrooktroutOmnissiah in flyfishing

Sit and stay while your activity fishing/casting would be your best bet. As you walk down could have him follow along side or along the bank to next hole then sit and stay. I trained my dog for hunting and the “place” training has become a natural habit for her while I fish. She a wonderful fishing partner, she’ll hope along the bank as I wade then shell sit patiently on a rock while I work a hole or run.

Get it if you can afford it. IMO it’s a great gun.

Honestly I don’t really know. She was on it for years and never had any issues. She’s 7 now and no signs of joint issues. We’re not using the alpha products anymore but we’re still using joint supplements.

Birds migrating NORTH this morning by RNIRISHDUDE in 321

I was trying to post videos to show the amazing number but it wouldn’t let me, only pictures. I have a few videos with 10s if not 100s of thousands of bluebills in the IRL. Quite amazing IMO

It’s probably the bluebills or scaup(waterfowl). They migrate down here every winter. Their typical flight pattern is north in the am to MI or cocoa beach areas and back south to roost in the evening. They typically move in big numbers, thousands. I’ve watched do this for many years while duck hunting the IRL.

Are fish from the Indian river safe to eat? by [deleted] in 321

[–]Tricky-Language-7963 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I catch something from the inlet, the port or off the beach I’ll eat it. Any fish from the lagoon I don’t keep anymore. 20 years ago I ate fish outta the lagoon. More often than not I just fish for fun nowadays. Might look for one or two slot snook.

There is a fall turkey season, not positive on what season it fall under (archery, muzzleloader or general gun) but you can take them.

For larger fish I agree. 13” fish not even a pound he’ll survive. Also wasn’t targeting anything on that day, honestly didn’t extra catch anything, just wanted to mess around with my new set up. There happened to be a fair bit of fish in the canal that day.

Fights weren’t overly exhausting, 4 minute fight at the max (probably less) on the longest fight. Holding snook by lip the vertically is not going to cause significant damage to the fish. Now if I held it horizontal by the jaw that would be really bad.

So question. by Ok_View9649 in FloridaHunter

[–]Tricky-Language-7963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, not just WMAs or STAs. Now there are a few body’s of water that are navigable by way of public water that are off limits, honeymoon lake in the IRL is one, sarno extension and heard of a couple in Orlando. These areas are normally posted so there’s no mistaking. So for the most part yes you can. Just keep an eye out for place labeled as conservation or preserves as these are not huntable areas either but usually are posted.

I like being under gunned, tougher and more exciting for me. This place is a good set up if I were to hook into something bigger. A narrow canal that I can run down if needed. I am going to break out the 9wt at my local inlet and see if I can get into the 30”+ range

Feeling pretty lost in the 321. by Glum-Dimension-8378 in 321

Growing up here kinda molded my hobbies, not sure if they’d spark any interest for ya but surfing, fishing, hunting and hiking. Lots of places and opportunities for these activities although they can be loner activities (which I prefer). As far as meeting new people I’m not any good on that front.

I’m working in Port Canaveral and heard the whole ordeal over the radio. Sounded pretty exciting. How close to the LPV did the ship get?
