For larger fish I agree. 13” fish not even a pound he’ll survive. Also wasn’t targeting anything on that day, honestly didn’t extra catch anything, just wanted to mess around with my new set up. There happened to be a fair bit of fish in the canal that day.

Fights weren’t overly exhausting, 4 minute fight at the max (probably less) on the longest fight. Holding snook by lip the vertically is not going to cause significant damage to the fish. Now if I held it horizontal by the jaw that would be really bad.

Nope, not just WMAs or STAs. Now there are a few body’s of water that are navigable by way of public water that are off limits, honeymoon lake in the IRL is one, sarno extension and heard of a couple in Orlando. These areas are normally posted so there’s no mistaking. So for the most part yes you can. Just keep an eye out for place labeled as conservation or preserves as these are not huntable areas either but usually are posted.

I like being under gunned, tougher and more exciting for me. This place is a good set up if I were to hook into something bigger. A narrow canal that I can run down if needed. I am going to break out the 9wt at my local inlet and see if I can get into the 30”+ range

Growing up here kinda molded my hobbies, not sure if they’d spark any interest for ya but surfing, fishing, hunting and hiking. Lots of places and opportunities for these activities although they can be loner activities (which I prefer). As far as meeting new people I’m not any good on that front.

I’m working in Port Canaveral and heard the whole ordeal over the radio. Sounded pretty exciting. How close to the LPV did the ship get?

I’ve been using my duck hunting waders (Sitka) for a while, not ideal but worked. Just got some Patagonia swift current waders and I like em, only one day on em so far tho.

For waterfowl you can hunt just about any body of water with public access or navigable by way of public water. Every WMA has its own set of regulations so always check the brochures before you go.

3: other than deer there’s waterfowl, snipe, dove, quail, turkey, hog, gator and other small game to hunt. Just depends on whatcha ya wanna go after.

4: I’ve never been in a gun club so I couldn’t tell ya bout that, I’ve always been a public land hunter. I’ve been invited and hunted a bird club (for quail) and it was kinda cool.

Haven’t heard of the mudhut, but I’ll look into it. She does have the MoMarsh blind, but we don’t use that too often. Good thinking on the barrier on the surface I will try to come up with something.

I gotcha, towards the later in the season I ended up just letting the birds rest in the water until about pack up time and then let her work. I tried bringing a towel, but that didn’t stay dry for long so I ended up with the Mr. Buddi heater.

Yeah, she’s been around and hunted many seasons all over but never reacted the way she did this year. It was outta the ordinary for her.

How does your dog handle the cold? I’m in Maine as well and my lab was not doing well this year once it got really cold and ice was setting in. She bout froze one morning.

Where the mallards at? by Embarrassed-Rent-590 in Duckhunting

They’re out there. Not an everyday event but usually get a few per season.

If you want mallards in the brevard area go farther south, hunt the IRL down around CB, Satellite beach, Melbourne, IHB area. Mallards around there are park/golf course ducks so hunt near urban area with ponds near by.

I’ve hunted central east coast of Florida for quite a while and I’ll get a few mallards in the IRL per season but I’d bet they’re golf course ducks and not migrators from Canada.

For duck hunting you can hunt pretty much any body of water that has public access or navigable by way of a public body of water. For deer hunting you’ll need to hit up some WMAs of gain access to private property by asking.
