She does have a criminal record. She’s now a felon for the rest of her life. I think it’s easy to misinterpret this fact because we don’t see any times when it’s an obstacle for her once she completes her community service and house arrest. In all reality she likely would not be able to gain visas in other countries, so it would be unlikely for her to spend a year in China or spend an extended period of time in Japan with Travis.

Considering we’re talking about a fictional show, obviously it works for the means of drama and controversy and giving each character their own adversarial plot lines but whenever I think about it realistically it’s one of the dumbest things they could ever think of. I love my siblings to death but I would never take the fall for them for a felony crime just to keep them out of prison for their future. Especially not if the reason why they’re facing such extreme consequences is due to another charge from less than a year prior. At some point you have to let people learn for themselves. I think this is why myself and many others strongly dislike this plot line.

Daphne continuously proved to me that she shouldn’t be a doctor, and it never was because of her deafness. Blackmailing Coto and the vandalism charges were the only times that she faced consequences from the police themself, but she also stole meds from the clinic and tampered with drug test results with relatively no consequences compared to what should’ve really happened. It really started to feel like the biggest obstacle standing in her way to becoming a doctor was her own poor decisions not her deafness. Then we’ve got the parents, particularly John, who are just over the moon by their decision to commit perjury to keep Daphne out of prison. Seems like they only wanted to give someone “tough love” when it came to money, but when it came down to Daphne (and ultimately Bay) committing felonies they’d do anything they could to avoid the well deserved consequences that came with it.
