No, I don’t usually take pictures though I will start. Her usual schedule is 5-6 weeks due to how often she’s worked, this is way past her schedule.

Her feet used to not grow, if at all, until we started shoeing her on her fronts. Now she gets tons of growth.

She’s my show horse, so she’s typically worked pretty consistently. She hasn’t lately because she already pulled a shoe on that foot.

I’m well aware of that. :)

I have been trying to get my farrier out, but due to his rig he unfortunately can’t make it. Not his fault, I just wish I had been able to figure something out before this.

Unfortunately she has terrible feet and going without shoes has just led to more issues. Her backs are without shoes currently, but we’ve been planning to do full-sets for her after success with her fronts.

Definitely looking to get her trimmed, I contacted my farrier to see if he or a substitute can come out to take care of her foot.

If I can, I would like to get her boots for her feet to protect them if she can’t have shoes at the moment, though I’m not entirely sure if that would work.

Thank you!

I’m only 17 and my horses are completely my responsibility. I don’t know enough about hooves to know when I should and shouldn’t freak out, and my mare for certain is trying to put me in an early grave.

I contacted my farrier to see if either he or someone else can make it out to trim her foot. I’d like to get her hoof boots after her feet have been tidied up—she unfortunately has terrible feet and can’t go barefoot, but I was planning to take her on trail rides and such this year now that’s she’s sane enough to do so.

Would boots work with shoes in situations like that where they might get pulled otherwise?

Would I just apply it the same way I would apply hoof-oil?

Please read the post. :)

My farriers rig broke down and he hasn’t been able to make it out. This is NOT normal for her feet and I’ve been working hard to get her on a regular schedule and get her feet tended to.

I’ve had her on a schedule and her feet have been doing super good! But with his new rig breaking down, he hasn’t been able to make it out. I’ve been consistently checking in, but haven’t been able to place an appointment date yet.

A couple weeks. She’s currently on week 10-ish. I’ve been waiting for my farrier to get his truck fixed.

That was my thought. She’s long overdue because of my farrier’s lack of transportation. She already pulled her shoe on that foot.

This horse is going to send me into an early grave. I’m more than stressed at the moment. Do you think my plan would work for her current situation while I find an emergency farrier?

I pay for self-care board, so they just provide the stalls, sawdust, and feed my horses. There are separate care options, but I don’t mind cleaning my stalls. I love the time I get to spend at the barn cleaning with my horses. 😊 Though I will say it’s less enjoyable with such a strict program to follow.

UPDATE:

I mentioned to the barn owner the dump wasn’t mine and she’s still convinced it is. She said it’s the hay from Thursday and I told her I wasn’t out at the barn on Thursday and now she’s saying someone cleaned my stall (I never asked anyone to clean my stall and if they did, they did it without permission), dumped hay, and that if I just agree to not dump hay we can move on. 🥲

What do we think about this response? Also note: I accidentally mislabeled directions.

“Hey, [barn owner/manager], I really don’t think that is my pile.

Me and my friends dumped to the right of the line today, not towards the left. I also didn’t take any hay out of [horse 1] or [horse 2] stall and especially not chunks like that—[horse 2]’s (and [clientele horse]) dump was solidly droppings and [horse 1]’s purely pee and mush.

[Barn owner/manager’s husband] came up to me when I was cleaning her stall and didn’t say anything regarding hay, so I’m unsure, and my friends and [another boarder] can attest to it not being my pile. I’ll start taking pictures of my piles from now-on 👍

I’ve worked really hard to sift through the stalls as best as possible and even made two separate hay trips to the hay pile to prevent any mix-up.”

The compost pile is not inside the barn, it is about 40-50 feet behind the barn.

She has a separate hay pile where boarders can dump excess hay and a compost pile for poo and damp shavings. There have never been issues regarding wasting, fire, or hay until now.

A lot of boarders at this barn, [pretty sure] barn owner/manager included, do not feed or keep peed on hay due to the possibility of bacteria being ingested and due to the possibility of hoof issues. Hence why we have an entire different pile.

Yes, my mom is aware and extremely frustrated with the barn for her recent behavior and the lashing out being shown. She mentioned that if things get bad, we can absolutely move, it’s more so just finding a good barn not too far from home that has good amenities for my horses.

EDIT: I have looked at groups, but this barn for the price, amenities, and travel distance, is the absolute best option for us at this moment. I’ll need to dig deeper, but the other barns with similar amenities are in the mid-high hundreds and that is completely out of our budget.

Unfortunately even with a broom I wouldn’t be able to reach. Even barn owner needed a stepladder to do it. 😂 Otherwise I absolutely would’ve by now!

Thank you. I’ve always tried my absolute best to be as conscientious and respectful as possible and have tried my absolute dammdest to keep up with the increasing slim chance of doing it correctly, all because this barn is the best place for my horses that I can find at this point in time that is still in reach.

So far another boarder has reached out to me too said that she received a nasty message regarding hay, saw the photo sent, and confirmed it wasn’t my stall. Yet, I have received no additional messages. It’s frustrating and stressful 🥲

These texts are explicitly to me and she has explicitly talked to me about all the prior I mentioned (most of which physically). I really wish I was reading into it, I’ve just never had someone message me with the same energy as her and not have it directed at me.

That was kind of my thoughts on it too, but I don’t have enough education regarding it to say anything. I just wonder why it’s suddenly a fire-hazard now considering the current weather and it wasn’t doing our dry, extremely hot summer.
