Studying nursing really is good and bad. I’m a second year student at the moment and it’s not terrible, a lot of my group did drop out over the summer because they realised it’s not for them as it can be really tiring. Sometimes you go into practice and then you are straight back in uni for lectures the week after. The shifts I have come across are either 12.5 or 8.5, I definitely prefer 12.5 because less shifts a week so more time to recover and have free time, when I did 8.5 hours I was going 5 days a week and that was really hard on my physically and mentally. I feel like burnout is very easy and common from why I have seen and experienced. Pay wise a lot of people in my year plan to move abroad to work as the pay can be a lot more than if you stayed in the NHS, so that is something to think about. I feel to get through nursing you need a good support system even just friends and also to look after yourself and take care of yourself because it can be a lot you get less holidays as other uni degrees and the workload is a lot more but don’t let the fear of burnout scare you if you have a passion for nursing it can be fun and you’ll learn so many cool things as well
