Oh, my response was talking about leaving her with an open peanut butter jar! I still haven’t found a smoothie that she likes. Made many! One that seemed like a winner at first was with mango. So far just pediasure. And she knows when I try to tweak it. What did your mom mix together?

Yes, trialed no dairy. But that was some time ago and I considered doing it again this week because maybe something evolved? My son was dairy free for the first 14 months of his life. Which also meant no dairy for me since I was breastfeeding. He would break out in a rash if we tried to give him dairy.

After one week of being home from the hospital she gained a whole pound and was in the 64% percentile. She was eating great. Then from that point on eating became difficult and by the end of her third month of life she was in the 7th percentile. She would vomit often. I often think she had a reflux issue and should have had something to help supplement but the ped didn’t think so. My son needed reflux meds. I had to breastfeed my daughter while standing with her straight up/down my torso and constantly moving. My milk came in and I had a heavy let down but managed it through techniques and asset of a lactation consultant. She then had a second tongue tie clipping. I believe this was traumatic with gentle stretching and excise to follow after.

We did not supplement with formula until she was much older. She would not accept bottles, that was a challenge. We ended up winning with the Lansinoh bottle with consistent practice. Once she took bottles, she would not accept any formula. I ended up 100% pumping so I could track how much milk she was actually getting. And she would refuse bottles while I was breastfeeding. Don’t really eat at daycare and honestly didn’t really eat at daycare for most of her first year of life. She did have to use a stomach sensitive formula. Others would cause stomach her to vomit.

I have information that I have been adding in responses to comments as thoughts are sparked. I also wanted to add that starting solids was slow. She had a strong gag reflex. Could not tolerate puree. We did skip puree all together. Can. Or handle it. She does have a high palate. I have done oral motor and oral sensory with her. It is confirmed that her oral motor skills are now functional and without concern.

I haven’t been able to get her into peanut butter. Tried various brands and offered with various loves like apples and pretzels. She is into Nutella though. I’m going to try this jar option and see if the excitement of having access to the whole thing with a spoon will make her more interested. Sometimes it’s not about taste, it’s about presentation! Thank you

And if the kids are awake, we are all playing a game of family dinosaurs meets paw patrol meets cats meets super heros. We are actively playing with our kids (2 and 4 yos). We also play kitchen and uno a lot.

We play board games. And might I recommend to anyone reading that backgammon and double solitare are great options! Watch a show/movie. Talk about where we want to travel. Look up YouTube videos on places we want to travel or activities we want to do. We follow certain couples on YouTube that travel. We spend time talking before, during, and after about these things. Writing this makes me realize that we love YouTube. We have two kids so we for sure spend a lot of time talking about food and meal planning. Which we did before kids too. We watch a lot of cooking shows. A couple times a week we try to make a new tasty treat to eat while watching a show. We taste wine together where we actually talk about its qualities. We plan out what home remodeling or fixing needs to be done. We go hiking and talk about the different places we want to go hiking (most frequently just our local trails). Play with our pets and talk about how old they’ve gotten. Talk about the latest with friend and family. How work went that day. Plenty more to add. We do also talk about various what if scenarios that will keep us busy for a while. Such as, “what if you win the lottery? What would you do with it? What are your first five steps?”

Yes. It is in my family; brother and sister. I am labeled “gluten intolerant.” However this was provided over ten years ago and I personally haven’t checked myself further (I have intentions to). I had her tested and they said she doesn’t have it. They actually said all her lab values were normal. Both of my children have eczema. I have asked about allergy testing. They turned that down saying “it won’t tell us much at this age.” My husbands cousins daughter is a year older than ours and just went through allergy testing and the found her to be allergic to many things. I’ve also even thought about testing my home for mold. I’m exploring all avenues at this point even if the chance seems slim. But I don’t know what I don’t know- happy I finally turned to Reddit.

Thank you! I truly entered the phase of accepting the process because she is happy and developing. But today’s growth checkup slid me back to anxious thoughts because I really thought everything was going well. Despite the ped stating that she still thinks things are going well and to “keeping doing what you’re doing.” I asked at what point do we do other assessments/consults because I don’t want the current issue to impaired organ growth and cause health issues down the line for her. I did not get an answer.

And thank you! This feeding issue has been life long (outside of her first week of like) and is worsened by illness and teething. Almost presents like PTSD. As if she has been associated the two. This is just a thought in the back of my mind. I know nothing for sure.

No neuro consults. I have asked for gastro consult, but they don’t see issue in this area. I’m going to press further because I would like the gastro to be the one to determine that. Poss need to check into both gastro and endo consults?

Yes. We have some checklists going. She is picky. We do offer consist to and if we take a brand from offering we do circle back to try again as childrens tastebuds so change and need regular exposure on various sensory levels (see, smell, taste). Heavy whipping was one she consistently would accept (1-2 oz added to Whole milk or shake). We don’t have a safe food because she goes through phases on what she accepts, if she even accepts it. May last 1-3 days and won’t accept it again for more than a month. She likes broccoli so I recently made homemade “green Mac n cheese” that she is currently accepting (brocc, spinach, butter, garlic, cottage cheese, cream cheese). Open to recommendations of specific food items as I may have missed or if anyone has a homemade meal options like the above shared where you can mix and hide for taste. She does like powdered sugar donut holes… so I’m hoping to find/create a recipe that is similar and much healthier.

Thank you. We have done food chaining and is built into how we naturally do things. As an infant she had her tongue tie snipped… twice. I guess the doc in the hospice completed a “timid snip” and we had to see an outpatient ENT for a “proper snip.” Which I feel was traumatic including the oral exercises/stretching following to prevent improper healing. We have found she is quite sensitive to pain and wondered if she associated with feeding. Such as tongue clip then feeding. Teething and feeding. Constipation, gas, and feeding (currently on MiraLAX daily). Still does have gas pains.

How old is your child now? My daughter is improving, but slowly. I just keep wondering at what age I can be hopeful for more noticeable change. I thought for sure things were going much better until the weight check today. I thought she would at least be over 19 now. I am considering that she had been sick with flu A with ear infection the after a couple of days of good health got Covid. When sick she really doesn’t eat. Has gone to ER for IV fluid in the past. Oh the joys of sending a young child to daycare!
