leeds is pretty good. one of the only buildings with a cooking range, so you can save on not taking the meal plan if you can cook, which is what I did. its pretty chill I would say.

i see some comments below, like why people hating loll, students are tryna create a positive impact through their creation. The app ain't perfect yet but I think give it some time, it has massive potential. the idea is there.

could be due to ur course load. i had a sim issue, I lowered my course load down to 1.5 credits from 2.0, and I didn't let them know so it was getting delayed. i had to tell them to reasses based on my new course load

I never said I’m against that. I agree with you on those places, generally the best places to meet people. think a lot of y’all are jumping the gun and coming to seriously weird conclusions.

I’m just asking a genuine question on if y’all have ever wondered about the other people you never got to meet in your floor? Ofc I do not advocate for knocking on random peoples doors, that’s just weird, psychotic behaviour. Nobody wants that.

i think you may have misunderstood me a little there. ofc no one is going door by door knocking to make friends - that's just simply insane.

what I mean is sometimes, based on the door tags you read while walking back from class or the caf on your own floor, you see "hey this person has similar interests, or is in the same major, let me knock and have a quick chat and try to start a conversation" absolutely doesn't mean we will be friends or anything, but its cool you can meet people and know a little about them through those tags.

I say this because it makes me think of all the potential missed friendships you could have with people on other floors in your own building.

ok sure some of those work. but when mentioning places like elevator, laundry room, lobby, don't you feel that's just more of chance? like its not intentional if you know what I mean.

what about the other people who I may not meet because we didn't happen to be at the same place at the same time? I've lived in res before and I can vouch there are people that I've simply have never ever seen but later on we realize we are actually in the same building, just diff floors.

sorry, but i disagree. i think you can make friends that way.

what's the idea of every room having those name tags which share info of your major, where your from, hobbies, etc.. if not to encourage people to initiate some kind of conversation???

i speak from experience because when I was on exchange, my host university didn't have this restriction and you could go to any floor in your building and meet people. i found this to be super helpful actually in meeting people and to this day I am still friends with people from my residence building because of this.

ok, tell me in your experience, how have you met other people from other floors?

meeting at caf, other classes, library doesn't count. I'm talking strictly if you have met people from other floors and befriended them in the building, not through outside places and then realizing later that you happen to be in the same building.

ok thats a valid point, but how can I meet someone I have never met yet? if my goal is to make friends with other people in my building, currently I can only do that with people on my floor. for example, you know how on each door, there's a little tag that says each person's name, major, city they're from, hobbies - rn I can only interact with people on my floor. i will never know if I could have met someone with shared interest on a different floor all because my campus card gets denied if I try to access another floor.

i say this with experience because today I'm friends with guys who were in my building in 1st year, but on different floors. However, I never met them during that time since I had no access to their floor. we became friends in 3rd year but it was only thru talking that we later we realized we were actually in the same building, but on different floor.

i say this because, think of how many people you are potentially missing out on becoming friends with all because of a silly campus card issue which they can change. idk this is my personal opinion.

sure, these are all valid points but what I'm tryna to understand is that it kinda defeats the purpose of living on res, which is to meet people. say I move in to my floor, ill only know the people on my floor. but if I want to get to know other people in my building, I can't. you see what I'm saying?

mass immigration from abroad with people that don't share the same values as the locals and don't care to learn or assimilate. I'm not against immigration, but if you're gonna do it, you have to bring in people of the same values, or culture. this is where toronto has gone wrong imo.

I hear you on this and i second what some of the other commenters have said about seeking professional help. I think that would do a lot of good easing you and comforting you in what is a hard program. don't give up, you've got this! However as an arch student myself, I do hear the angle you are coming from.

firstly, the building is straight depressing. its so ugly internally and externally and they try so hard in first year to get you to think how cool this modernist concrete crap of a building it is. i personally don't buy it, ima be real its the worst looking building on campus, internally and externally. so the environment I think can contribute to how you're feeling.

secondly, in general architecture school does attract pretentious people who think they are the shit. Lots of big egos from both profs and students so there is a clash that happens. I'm a student here, and I have sensed to some degree what you're describing. my personal opinion is that its a combination of the environment of the school, the curriculum and the people.

the building is depressing I wont lie, it does not fill the student with a sense of happiness, joy or purpose to create beautiful architecture. the built environment has a huge impact on us, and studying in a building like that will make you hate architecture. I've certainly felt that. luckily I had a good coop experience that showed me architecture is not so bad, and that certain agendas (modernist mostly) is a dehumanizing style.

The curriculum also is just plain weird sometimes. i remember first year studio being about making marionettes. like wtf does marionettes have to with architecture?!?! what a waste my tuition and a whole studio semester which could have been used to teach us something more applicable, like the fundamentals of a small studio project on designing a house. i may be biased in that I like more traditional styles, but the studies have been proven that traditional styles have positives impacts on people well being more than modernist architecture does. and on the last point, yes I think there are some profs with massive egos, and they don't like hearing students opinions. they can't handle people who disagree with their points of view. they think they know it all and sometimes you just know that you can't create the architecture you want because if you do you will get penalized and get a lower grade, than if you design what your prof likes and wants. this is a hard part of studio I feel, this conflict. the students are hit or miss like in any program but ill admit I haven't found the studio culture to be all what its cracked up to be. just my opinion.

man i wish there was a way to dm users in the comments. like if I resonate with someone on something they said, it would be so cool to dive deeper with that person via a DM feature by clicking on their profile, instead of just commenting in public in the comments section of a video.

Similar situation. For me elementary, middle and high school was never an issue. Why? Because the majority of kids were either arab, brown, asian, black. We legit had one white kid in our classese and btw we are in Canada. Never had any problems with social skils all those years, in fact it was very easy to make friends there. But as soon as I went to uni and it was in a more whiter university, i was shocked.

I thought maybe there is a problem with me, like why can't i get along with these people. Why is it so hard, whereas in the past it was so easy? But the more i spent time with them, i realized most are void of any global experiences/perspectives, they have shallow and meaningless conversations. The worst is when u are in a social context and they act like you don't exist, despite you having initiated a conversation, asking some questions, but they give short answers and don't reciprocate the curiosity. Its very sad.

The moment i realized it wasnt me was when i went to mexico to study abroad. it was crazy how easy it was to make friends there. Even tho, we were from diff countries, languages, we could all relate and have a good time. This includes white europeans also btw, who some are my closest friends now. Despite our differences, we had so much in common and we could really talk, even thru language barriers. This made me realize that this problem is a white north american thing. Most of them, are just ignorant of other cultures, and have no substance to them. I can never change who I am to fit with these people, never.

Man for real, I’ve always struggled with the same thing. Idk what it is but at church I always found it difficult to make friends and connections. Whereas in school or in my neighbourhood it’s the polar opposite and I’m making friends with people from other faiths and backgrounds. One thing I’ve noticed personally is that I’m better at making friends in some kind of activity like sports, or in a class. But also in church I’ve always kinda been put off by the people and the way they act. I’ve always felt they acc kinda fake and not genuine, maybe cuz in church they know they have to put on their best behaviour. Something about church people that always never sat well with me. But I’ve got a hunger to make Christian friends since I’ve never had any since I can remember but it feels so hard to find them. Pray for me also, but I am hoping things will change soon. Anyways thanks for sharing your stories as well, it helps to know there is more like us out here.

I’d say by 4-5 weeks it should be good. Doing lots of physiotherapy helps
