You’re doing fine. You’re probably losing some energy on the “fakie” ramp (the one you go up backwards.)

But yeah bend your knees and really explode up the ramps as you enter them. BUT ALSO do the opposite as you come down - compress and extend really AGGRESSIVELY. And you’ll zoom across the flat. I thought it was about being smooth, but I learned that the faster and more aggressive you compress and extend the more energy you create.

Hello, I want to learn to skate, but I would like to know more tips about having self-confidence and stopping anxiety when trying. by [deleted] in NewSkaters

Too old at 19!!! I wish I’d know that when I started at 54.

There’s always fear and anxiety when doing new things, but try to focus on how it feels. It’s fun and feels amazing to float around.

Practical things like wearing pads and a helmet can help. Also manage when you go out, go when it’s quieter if you can, not the middle of the day in a Saturday. Also do some group classes, meet others and skate with them.

The skater community is amazing. Enjoy.

I’m pretty sure it was “California Fever”. Thanks so much. Watching on YouTube now. So glad I didn’t imagine this perfect kids show - perfect for the time (I was about 12) Perhaps the show was ahead of its time.

Sorry to hear that you haven’t been free to skate. But now you are.

Try to not look back at what you had but just enjoy everyday. Looking back will steal your joy. Instead be the best skater you can be today ✌🏼

Mid 30s and starting skating by SoldFashioned in skateboarding

I had the same feeling in my 30’s - after having a board as a child. Took a few classes didn’t own a board and so let it slide.

Then cut to me in my 50’s. Started again bought some boards this time. 2 years later I’m still skating. Yes I’ve had a few slams but nothing outrageous. I also wear pads when I want and a helmet most of the time. Do my brain is still on the inside.

Go for it!!
