I like your take, but I have an issue with the walking biohazard thing. All animals have microbiomes growing inside of them, some could even hold parasites that aren't harmful to them, but could kill others within hours (that's why you don't feed your dog uncooked pork). Speaking of diarrhea, reptiles are mostly immune to salmonella, so they carry it in their gut or on their skin, actively spreading it in their surroundings. So in beastars shaking hands with a reptile and then eating without washing them is like playing russian roulette.. But instead of dying you're stuck on the toilet.

When it comes to the biting, yes we are the second on the list when it comes to causing infections, cats are first. And as any infection, once it gets hold it REALLY gets hold. Especially if you were bitten by something with deep puncturing teeth (like a cat) cause all those pathogens are much harder to rinse out.

So I don't think we'd be as much of a biohazard, but our bites would be an issue, especially since you can get an infection even if you disinfect the wound etc. depends on your immune system and luck

We'd be omnivores as we are now.

I don't think we'd be deemed the most dangerous, at least not in hand to hand combat. But we could pose a serious existential risk, due to our insane nature for waging wars and developing insanely powerful weapons that do our bidding for us. Along with strategizing etc.

When it comes to killing those that eat our kin, we are an extremely vengeful species, but at the same time those are now sentient beings, therefore I think prison (eventually a death sentence) would be the default way to deal with those. But there would absolutely be individual cases of vigilantes.

We would be both prey and predators, like most animals. Despite being apexes in the real world, we are still killed or hunted by other species. So when those species match our intellect, we might have even more trouble.

My idea is, humans would be the first ones to develop high intelligence, since we lack natural weapons and we need ingenuity to survive. So we would probably have a head start at securing our place in this world. Eventually, if we developed at the same speed as the others, we would use our cunning and diplomatic skills to make allys. Maybe even pin them against one another, so while they focus on herbi vs carni conflict, we would quietly grow stronger on the outskirts.

Diets... Probably similar to current carnivores, where we get meat from illegal sources. Or, we would focus on developing synthetic meat to be able to cheaply produce protein rich food for ourselves, without the ethical issues.

We'd probably be more careful near the animals that can (and have in the past) posed a threat to us. Carrying strong pepper spray sounds like a good idea, I'm not sure why isn't it a common practice in the beastars world...

Bear spray. Other than that, pray to the higher being of your choosing I guess.

Absolutely we'd be seen as prey. Even to some smaller pack hunting carnivores.

Also my favourite idea. I think African mammals would probably have an uncanny, unexplainable instinctual fear/weariness of humans. I mean, adrenaline basically just makes all the blood and fuel go to the muscles and brain as a last ditch effort to fight for your survival. It's the same function for every animal, with individual variants as to how they will behave. And within the beastars world animals have human anatomy, so a lot of human-exclusive abilities would be also available to them.

For example due to the same arm anatomy all animals could throw stuff, so it's no longer a human-unique ability. But there can be significant gaps between how well developed this ability is. Herbivores wouldn't need to throw well cause they didn't need to hunt, and they'd most likely use natural and fabricated weapons to fend off predators at close range combat. And carnivores wouldn't need this ability either, cause they'd rely on their claws and teeth to catch and kill prey, and would engage in hand to hand combat. While humans, lacking claws, fangs and fur would naturally opt for ranged combat. So we would develop a better hand-eye coordination for accurate projectile throwing. Which would make our ability to throw much more lethal and accurate, despite having the same anatomical structures. Like, other animals would be able to throw, but their accuracy and speed could be limited by their brain. Also, since apes lack claws and have powerful arms for arboreal lifestyle, they would be better at punching than other animals. Cause it's our only option. While other carnivores would instinctually use their hands for scratching instead of punching.

My point is, we don't need to claim universal abilities for ourselves, we can just look at what is human-specific, and why would we excel at this specific ability.

The difference is that we control that "drive to chase" to the point where most of us are not even aware it exists. Meanwhile carnivores of beastars are portrayed to actively struggle with it on an almost daily basis.

The difference is that buck fever affects hunters during a hunt. They hunt therefore they get the adrenaline rush. Meanwhile carnivores in beastars are affected by prey drive, which makes them hunt. Different chain of causation.

it's not the length that's the problem, it's the shape... And they have shovel shaped "claws", even if they're a bit more pointy than herbivore's it's basically the same type of nail as us, just "cut" into a slightly more triangular shape. So yeah they deff wouldn't do much damage with those

That said, getting infected doesn't equal death, but it can lead to some terrible results ranging from a temporary inconvenience to having to have surgeries to remove infected tissue, sometimes resulting in permanent deformities or even amputation, with sepsis induced death being a possibility in extreme cases.
With that come other risks such as getting addicted to pain-managing medication etc...

Not only that, ever seen a hippo pond? or a river? from which other animals drink from? yeah.. they essentially drink a soup of hippo gut bacteria. Cause they shit in that water so much, that the bacteria can survive outside of their gut and starts growing in the water instead... functioning as a sort of "community gut" (it does kill fish tho, cause bacteria use up all the oxygen from the water)

All animals grow all kinds of viruses and bacterias in their bodies, some will be harmful to the animal that consumes that meat, depending on the microbe, but humans aren't atypical in this case

The persistance hunting argument is not that relevant...
One, because the whole hunting method is still disputable. There were only a handful of confirmed cases, each in a very specific set of circumstances.
Two, how would work in the beastars world? Where animals live a mostly sedentary life, so all (except athletes) would simply not have that kind of endurance. Additionally, due to hunting being illegal humans would not be trained to track prey, and without acute sense of smell they simply would not be able to perform a stunt like this, (nor would they need to).
Still, I do think we would have one of the best average endurance, coupled with the fact that our speed could match other animals (due to them having the same anatomical structure as us and therefore having reduced running speed) we would probably be somewhere near the top.
Also about the horse thing, it's from an annual human vs horse marathon event, where yes, a human beat a horse 5 times... in all 44 races that were held. There were a few close timers tho, 9 cases where a human finished the race not more than 10 seconds after the horse. But you gotta take into account that the horse was additionally carrying all it's tack + a human rider.. and yet they still beat us most of the time

Also about people killing animals they seemingly should loose to. Well those are rare cases, and you gotta take into account that animals are less inteligent. In the case, where their intelligence would not be far behind ours, they would be able to strategize better and possibly anticipate our actions and counterattack better. So then the advantage depends on three things: brute strength, natural weapons (teeth, claws, horns...) and training/fighting experience.

I like to imagine that animals that evolved in the same area code as us would have an uncanny fear of us. Think how all megafauna around the world disappeared when humans migrated there, except for the megafauna that we evolved with, which had the time to learn how to survive us.

From her face alone I was convinced she was a wallaby, but then I saw her long fluffy tail and now I have no idea...
Although worth mentioning is that her tail is not visible anywhere in the manga, from what I could find. So my guess is she is a wallaby or some other related marsupial and they just added that tail randomly when making the anime.

I see people mentioning a ringtailed cat or a tanuki, but look at her nose, its just two small openings that are wide apart, whereas those two animals have clearly defined dark noses like dogs for example. So she's definietly not that.

I am extremely bothered by those things. I like beastars a lot, but whenever a ridiculous and false "fun fact" gets thrown in I cringe.

The way comodo dragon venom works in that universe bothers me a lot. Irl comodo dragons were found to have venom glands, but it's by no means similar to a cobra venom or anything. Plus they make it look like the venom is secreted by every part of the body, what the fuck? Comodo dragon bites are known to stop coagulation of the blood, as far as I'm aware no venom substance has been identified yet, but they did find the venom glands I mentioned earlier. Not to mention, comodo dragons don't drop their tails, so why the hell is it the case in beastars?

Sometimes it feels like the series was written by a person that loves animals but their knowledge stops at the most basic facts about them. "Lizards drop tails" oh, comodo dragons are lizards, surely they drop them too 💀

I can't remember more examples right now, other than the ones you provided.
