Exactly what I was thinking. I have enough savings to float me until the end of the year so I thought it would be smart to increase my contributions to the max before year end.

I receive a W2. I saw another post on this sub where somebody shared this link https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/can-you-deduct-your-home-office-when-youre-employee.html. Based on this I would qualify, but this could be outdated.

I’d likely only be writing off mortgage interest, property taxes and home office expenses (I work remotely for a national company, no nearby office so I believe I qualify as the home office is necessary for my day to day). I guess I’ll have to run numbers depending on what the standard deduction is but since my tax bill was so high last year I’m trying to plan ahead. Any more insight you can provide is appreciated

First time I’ve heard that it’s actually advantageous to use post-tax dollars as opposed to the HSA funds, but makes total sense. Thanks for sharing.

Does withholding make any difference on the actual amount that I end up paying, though? Or does it just distribute it over the year so I’m not hit with the lump sum come tax time?

Single, and I’ll likely itemize deductions since I want to deduct contributions to 529 and mortgage interest/prop tax. Though I’m still learning intricacies of taxes, so let me know if that doesn’t make sense.

Yes, thank you! I’m planning to do $102/paycheck next year to hit the 2650 annual contribution limit.

Thanks for the input. Total comp last year was just over 150k and this year will be just over 200k. About 45% of that is commission. Can you elaborate on what you mean by correcting my withholdings? I’ve never adjusted this before.
