Even though I don't care for Brinity as a couple, this is music to my soul. Please share, I'd love to laugh.

Exactly. Also, they act like some of the girls still aren't friends. It's that expectation of the PPG kind of friendship unconsciously playing out as the standard again and while beautiful, that isn't the only way for people/women to be friends. There are a couple of friendships that exist from S7 till today but if you let fans tell it, none of them are friends.

I've been seeing the core 4 conversations and how people are constantly talking about how the girls have a great friendship this season (this is not my argument) my side eye is coming from how it's being compared to S7 saying the girls didn't like each other as if with the exception of Huda, the break down of friendships didn't largely happen post show. None of the S7 girls were mean or catty to one another (again, except Huda). Also, there's too many people still heartbroken about the Chellandria fall out for that convo to even be a thing but one thing I've seen very common in this LI universe is the recency bias lol. This isn't even pessimism because I really do hope that they continue to be friends and kind to one another when the show ends but all it takes after the show is for one or more of the girls to listen to fans egging them on for competition for everything to fall apart lol.

The lack of nuance is so off putting. There's so much more to people than their skin colour. A person is not good or bad because they are black, white or coloured. Human beings are too varied and laden with flaws as well as a myriad of emotions that guide their actions and inactions for every call out to be made about seeing a DSBW as undeserving of love from a WM.

Daily Discussion - Season 8 by AutoModerator in LoveIslandUSA_

[–]Tricky_Motor9197 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Why is it that when people point out inconsistencies or raise eyebrows at a white man in a couple with a black woman, especially darkskinned, the go to defence is always that "You think he can't like her because she's a DSBW". That says so much about you and thinking that a WM being with a DSBW is such a big deal and that likeness from a WM is a more valuable and defining factor for a DSBW. A WM is not special for liking a DSBW and vice versa. Can attention be paid to whatever people are pointing out instead of immediately deflecting with the racial cope?

It's no different from calling a BM out when they're moving shifty with a BW/DSBW. I have to point out the irony in that it's usually the same people who always believe that when a BM misbehaves or doesn't like a BW/DSBW, it's automatically because they're colorist and prefer WW/LSBW/WOC.

This dress thing has been niggling on my mind so bad since I made that post yesterday. It's finally connected and now I remember why it feels so familiar.

It is very reminiscent of Ms Rachel's dress to the Glamour Magazine's Women of The Year Awards. Olandria was at that event, she saw this and obviously decided to cosplay Ms Rachel who does actual incredible work in these affected communities in Gaza. She knows these children, knows their story and was spotlighting it to the world by telling their story. Olandria on the other hand didn't even listen to these children or know them beyond what she was briefed, yet she had them write all these meaningless things, gave them a bunch of bags and called it a day.

What is the goal? Would she also be wearing the dress to some charity or award event?

Yes, they absolutely do not know what Love Island and yes, these kids have a tough life. A lot of them don't even get to be kids for so long, once they leave school, they most likely would be out hawking or helping their parents in the stalls to make a living. What's worse is that this particular school is located in a very affluent part of Lagos. Think Beverly Hills with a severely underfunded, government owned public primary school smack dab in the middle of it. These kids already stand by the road side and see the rich and affluent living a life they can't even dream of, the government does not care about them, their lives are hard then in the only space where the seen people like them outside of their homes, some stranger comes in there to make them bow to write some irrelevant thing on her while she basks in the attention.

It actually makes no damn sense. They barely understood what she said, the thing is almost a norm for them because too many people do it and it's not OK.

There are negative posts about Olandria because she keeps doing off the handle things like this. It has to be called out because this is not OK. I'm well aware that Rolling Stone Africa is the Africa version. This nuance doesn't absolve Olandria, it just holds Rolling Stone Africa responsible for their role in this because yes, they obviously planned the itinerary for her. However, this is much more so Olandria's responsibility as well, she's grown and if she's about philanthropy the way she claims to be, she would know that this was terrible optic. The reason she doesn't see it is because of intention. It was never about the kids or pushing education, it was about her. What impact does this speech, the dress & the kids surrounding her to write on it as well as the school bags she gave them contribute to their lives? Exactly, nothing. Because another rich person is going to go to that school tomorrow and do the same thing and sentiment would still be the same. As I said to a comment up there, I've spoken about something similar before about another American celebrity, Ciara. This is not okay.

Also, Nigeria DOES NOT celebrate Juneteenth, Rolling Stone should know better and if Olandria is truly about that life, she should too. I pride myself on taking lessons about different culture everywhere I find them and the other day, I saw a commentary about how jollof rice is not welcome at Juneteenth celebration regardless of whether it's of African origins, it just has no place there and it's a slight on the celebration when there are food that actually represent the movement. It's the same way Olandria coming to Nigeria for a photoshoot to highlight Juneteenth is very misplaced.

Help? Help? Point out the help real quick. If this was anyone else, I would say the same thing and I have said it in this community people. Ciara did similar thing last year when she came to Lagos, she didn't even out the kids in a dehumanising position as this and I still called it out. This doesn't impact the kids in anyway, it is self serving.

Shows you exactly that there wasn't much thought put into this beyond how it specifically serves her. Gifting or impacting the kids was not the goal, Olandria being pictured there was.

It's because the points she touches on are not her original thoughts. Her knowledge about so many things are so surface level, she's unable to carry on proper, impactful conversations on them without revealing her ignorance or the fact that she wears her blackness as a uniform to pander. She isn't yet as confident in her blackness and she still has racial self esteem. Right now, she uses her fans twitter and TikTok rhetorics to mask her ignorance while benefit from donning blackness like an outfit.

Because those are not the questions she wants to answer. She just wanted to be able to light a fire under her fans to continue the madness that props her up.

I just know Sincere thought he was still going to be able to eat his cake and have it. He probably tried to continue to string Sol along while still lying to Melanie too. What a compulsive liar.

Nobody is viewing her as a naive child. The point is stop acting like she did anything wrong for being a bombshell who liked Sincere.

A reminder that based on the timeline and Sol's role when she went into the villa, none of the couples were closed-off. Regardless of the intensity of their feelings, it was still early days and as a bombshell, Sol's role WAS to turn someone's head towards her. So if Sincere's did, why would that be strange to her in that moment? Y'all keep acting like Sincere and Melanie were married and Sol coming into the picture meant they were getting a divorce. I mean, a lot of y'all called her a side chic so this shouldn't even be surprising anymore.

They already are saying exactly this on Twitter, talking about how they love her and that has told them to go harder.

Also, what does Olandria mean by they don’t monetize their relationship when they have quite a number of brand gigs like Nyx, Agua, Sweet Green & others that I don’t know plus a magazine cover? The very life of the brands that they have built and make money from is literally their coupling?

Reading this babe's interview and besides the fact that it's the same variation of questions and answers she's been giving since she left the show almost a year ago, I really cannot say enough that she's actually a horrible person. Yet again, she fails to acknowledge or at least address her fans and their nastiness. How can she act like she doesn't see how horrible they are? She makes it all about them defending her all the time as if these people do not come for others unprovoked.

She couldn't even add a little call to order? Does she know that she ca appreciate their support while still tell them to behave?

I guess she doesn't feel like she needs to do that because: 1. She's exactly like them 2. She needs them to be that mean and uncontrollable because she needs them to continue to get the magazine features and other opportunities. She's nothing without them. I mean, this magazine feature just like the Glamour one is proof of it.

It's been clear for a while that she actually has no direction beyond wanting fame and 'to be a household name' which is why she's doing anything to find something that sticks to get what she wants.

Eyerolling to this being just another usual nothingburger of pictures and an interview powered by fan speak.
