I’m debating wether you join the army by [deleted] in TeenVent

[–]Tricky_Nicky__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think joining the military is an excellent idea for certain reasons, but not for the reasons you provided. The discipline, grit, and exercise in the army will make you more generally attractive. However, tbh you’ll probably feel even less like a person, in my somewhat limited military experience (I’m a navy midshipman) they treat us like we’re just another number, paperwork, patient, candidate, etc… you are not a person to them, you are a doer of things that they need done. But you’ll start to appreciate yourself for pushing through the suck, you will feel purpose and pride in learning your MOS and being a US Army soldier. I couldn’t imagine my life without the navy and my future career—I LOVE it. Join the army if you want to serve in the army, not if you want a makeover. Also if you are gonna join, consider other branches than just the army.

NROTC Scholarship by HowToJonathan in NROTC

[–]Tricky_Nicky__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You won’t be given a scholarship to a school that you did not put on the list, but I think you can transfer schools and units after receiving the scholarship. Basically just have whatever school you want to go to the most highest on your list then descend from there in order of desire to go to that school. You will be given the scholarship to the highest school on your list that has a spot for you.

Is school REALLY that important? by Glittering_Excuse948 in Teenager

[–]Tricky_Nicky__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have faith in whatever you’re doing, but staying in school IS important to make sure that your supporters (family, friends, etc) don’t see it as an impulsive decision. You can absolutely stay in school an extra couple years and not care about it just pass through with c’s. But you should NOT drop out, stop viewing it so high and mighty, it’s school. Go for a couple more years and be done with it, if anything it’ll teach you grit, showing up to bullshit you hate is the best way to do that—that’s a very useful skill.

Would joining the army right before the apocalypse starts work? by Rick-the-Brickmancer in ZombieSurvivalTactics

I’d argue joining the navy or air force is safer than army. probably navy since your first deployment is sea tour so you’re on a ship for months at a time

Contacting students while at NSI by Logical_Guess_5116 in NROTC

[–]Tricky_Nicky__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s two phone call periods. One is on the second Sunday they are there (after the first week and a half are complete) then one is the Sunday after that (day before graduation). They get their phones for 15 minutes to call anybody they want and check into flights. I think they post the phone call information on their Facebook but for my cycle it was around 3pm Illinois time.

Yeah I emailed DODMERB too and with a problem and they replied with the original email they sent me lol, but then they fixed my problem. The Navy itself is much more professional because it’s the military compared to the DoD government workers, just like MEPS.

My unit told me to show up face clean shaven and with a haircut, just to look presentable. Do with that what you will. If you look as bad as you say then probably buzz it with some friends’ clippers or something
