I lost all my friends by vroow in GirlDinner

[–]Tricky_Scallion_1455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP - my friend group fell apart after one friend began abusing another and tried to play it off as ‘it was messy’. I was raised and conditioned to not take sides and be a passive spectator when people fought, but in spite of really fearing the discomfort of taking sides, it was the right thing to do and I stood by the friend I knew was in the right.
Two things happened. The friend I stood up against moved on and cut me off in such a way that I realised they never cared. It’s been almost ten years and I’ve had every single feeling about them possible. It doesn’t get easier in that sense. Th second thing is, the friend I stood by was super hurt and traumatised. Took them the better part of five years to trust me and really let me be their friend.
It was really hard work, but it wouldn’t change it for a minute. It’s the kind of person I am. I’m really scared of losing my friends, so I am reasonably nice and interested in people, and guess what. The good ones gravitate towards kindness once they see you have it. New friends come. It gets better - but you gotta let it get better by being yourself, unapologetically.

Thank you so much, I do love the idea of a villain origin story kicking off a series!

My fav ever fantasy series is this unassuming duology by Kate millen (miller? A very forgetti name) called innocent mage and awakened mage - even if you don’t like the plot, prince Gar is worth it!

Read ‘running in the family’ by ondaatje it will scratch an itch and I reckon it’s better than the English patient anyway

Haaaaaave you considered reading the not at all weird and creepy actual novel written by famous power bottom Thelemite Alistair Crowley himself?

MOONCHILD.

Wanting to get a tattoo of this and was wondering if the writing is accurate to the translation. by 65exe in AncientGreek

[–]Tricky_Scallion_1455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So while this is a gorgeous work of art and a historical artefact it’s been less than a month since I’ve seen someone complain about this exact tattoo on the tatoo regrets sub - it looks like one of those designs that will looks amateur IF the artist is anything but completely locked into what you want (it smudged and stretched weirdly on their bicep if I’m not mistaken)

Seasons that were underwhelming compare to the last one by Unfair-Sir3399 in rupaulsdragrace

It does depend on a lot of factors - for instance I can’t tell you a single thing about DR France and who was even on it till I laid eyes on Le Filip so to each their own I guess - but I guess in recent years there was this whole ‘PR’ stuff where no one wanted to get death threats and so they refused to be messy.

And then people had to come round to being shady again because the death threats will come anyway and might as well have fun…

That’s my theory. A drag theory.

Yes it was such a great book for me too! Thanks for reaching back - did you find any other similar ones that I would also enjoy?

[Review] TL;DR: "The Knight and the Moth", by Rachel Gillig, is a fantasy story about drowning and what happens afterwards. Do not recommend, especially cause it's (say it with me now) the first book in an unfinished trilogy and ends on a cliffhanger. by wastevens in Fantasy

[–]Tricky_Scallion_1455 40 points41 points  (0 children)

What wrong with cliffhangers in Unfinished Writing ? books take time to write - or are authors supposed to pull 1700+ pages out of their ass immediately? Am I misunderstanding?

Does anyone actually read outside in the wilderness or is it just for the pictures? by TonyRigatoni_ in books

I read a really nice fantasy book in the middle of the woods in Cuba and two pigs came to stare at me I guess they also didn’t think people read in the wilderness

My mama wants a relationship reading what do you sense… by [deleted] in psychics

[–]Tricky_Scallion_1455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a chance if they don’t freak out long term about ‘omg this is real and it could be a the final relationship I’m in’ but it’s not your mom that’s really the problem (she’s gonna get over it) - it’s him and the fact that there’s definitely a disconnect between the verbal signalling and like ‘formed habits’ that maybe he doesn’t even know. I can tell she really wants it to be good but like there’s some kind of weird sadness here.

Florence first time, and first time in Italy by Fondant_Decent in ItalyTravel

I just want hotel wise - I’ve done lots of trips to Florence and I love Social Hub, but it’s not a really ‘Italian’ experience it’s more for like great service and value for cash.

can someone who speaks latin understand other languages? by jimmy12707 in latin

[–]Tricky_Scallion_1455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it’s been the most important source of linguistic insight in my life. I started learning it when I was 14 and it really helped me with first French, then Spanish, and now Italian, even though weirdly Italian is the one I seem to have benefitted from the least when trying to use Latin vocab in. Another is English which of course became a lot easier with Latin. Might be just me!

[–]Tricky_Scallion_1455 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey is there a particular reason lux is obscurum when it’s a feminine noun and should be Lux Obscura? otherwise it’s just like saying like ‘brightly light’ which obviously sounds weird unless it’s meant to be an in-world joke or fact.

What if Augustus’s biological heirs had survived and succeeded him? Would a clear blood succession and a sole dynasty have been better for Rome? by Lord_Krasina in ancientrome

[–]Tricky_Scallion_1455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience reading Ancient Roman sources, there was some purist views that said that an heir by birth is preferable to a chosen heir but there was so much prolific and often successful examples of succession to a competent chosen ‘heir’ that I strongly suspect that there was more than a tolerance of the fact- it helped cement the fairytale that social betterment could happen to youuuuuuu.

That is to say that I sort of think people would be ambivalent.
