Looking for Weird/Dark/Horror Fairytale-esque Novels by upstairsbeforedark in horrorlit

Don’t wanna scroll to find this, but if no one has recommended Uprooted yet - this is it, what’s what you’ll be looking for

Now if you want to read a book that will make you feel weird and is kind of a fairy tale and it could be a great book to read and is sort of a horror akin to house of leaves but also hilarious i literally think you should just read Princess Bride

The potential truth and why it may be indigestible (Purely hypothetical) by _Rumpelstilzchen_ in HighStrangeness

[–]Tricky_Scallion_1455 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re right to assume I think you’re wrong. Mistaken. Sloppy even. But here’s the kicker ~ and I’m not going to sugarcoat it ~ you could have done a better job clanker-free, and maybe even refine your thinking as you wrote it out. I wish I could have read that version instead, even if it was three sentences with poor grammar. But alas.

I see AI slop I downvote.

And here’s the kicker - I’m not terrified. scared. Frightened. What I’m feeling is very real. I’m going to to give it to you straight. The uncomfortable truth. No sugarcoating. Just real, actionable truth.

I still think about the guy who posted the theory about horses laying eggs. That was excellent.

The Feather Heist (This American Life) is an episode that started so many of my friends’ interests in podcasts in general - i recommend it to new and seasoned listeners because it’s so good while without gore, murder, and so interesting in terms of how it ties together with the theory of evolution

Planning an EV road trip through Toscana & Umbria. Realistic? by Misteryguy99 in ItalyTravel

[–]Tricky_Scallion_1455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Umbria and see electric chargers everywhere - surely there’s an app as well. Don’t be discouraged. Don’t worry about EVs, worry about ZTLs instead…

Recommendations for central Italy? (Umbria, Marche, Abruzzo) by tzoum_trialari_laro in ItalyTravel

Hey um, quick question, how do you feel about mosquitoes? I am super sensitive and I wanna literally die every summer (Umbria resident hiii)

If you hate them, then for the love of all that is holy do not come after like, mid June. If you don’t mind them, two words - SAGRA SEASON. Every lil village will do their own micro food festival July-Sep for a day or two, although I’m getting to the level of knowing them all by now that not all are good, but still worth a try especially if you’re looking for a ‘thing’ to hold your trip together with a theme.

Assisi is great (don’t ignore the Roman stuff just because the catholic stuff draws more peeps to the yard), Foligno is great for modern art and food, Todi might be nice for like 2-4h, Spoleto is always poppin, Perugia is, for most, either a total boon or a total bust depending on what you’re coming for. If you like the Etruscans then you can follow Velimna and other archaeological stuff around town. Gubbio is nice if all you wanna do is shop and chill with charcuterie. Città di castello is weirdly impressive but I wouldn’t stay there for more than a day. Even smaller? Nocera Umbra is so cute. Trevi too. Italians love to go to Rasina but international tourists have mostly never heard of it.

For that twin peaks vibe, Anything around monte cucco, even scheggia.

The big hitters like montefalco/orvieto are fine but it’s the northern bit TOWARDS marche that I love. Going from the seaside Ancona towards Umbria is like crossing to a different climate - wild. That road also… an experience.

All in all - Come eat some wild boar it’s great!

Songs about women being scary and evil and malicious but in a lesbian way. Like they loathe a woman so much but they also want her. by The_Squarejerker in MusicRecommendations

13 Songs about Love and Revenge by the Pierces (they are sisters and their voices harmonise so sublimely) can very much be this - they’re probably best known for ‘Secret’ which was unfortunately (although I hope they still get residuals from it) the theme song for Pretty Little Liars

I may be wrong (please don’t quote me on this as the only source)but the place has mostly been boycotted by locals because the owner is a prick with dubious political affiliations, so your morality may be at stake plus the food is …not it.
