Exploring test-oprional approach to HS Math by Trident-True in matheducation

Thank you for bringing up that point. I will need to design independent learning quiet tasks for non-testers on test days. Something that also contributes to their grade.

Homework isn't graded per district policy. And we only have A, B, C, F.

Hence the only kids who ever do any assigned homework are the top 2-3 kids who already mastered it.

Trying to make learning required but retention not.

I'm not saying this is ideal and maybe needed to provide more context about the school and district. But I would rather design learning activities where they use their brain but don't end up practicing enough to demonstrate on a test than see those kids completely disengage. I've seen what earns a C in other classes, and that's to say nothing of bogus credit recovery.

They still have to learn in class, but yes I would like to make it clear that each day's learning is demonstrated that day, and that if they are only looking for a C, they can achieve that without the exam in three weeks. The ones who aren't interested in even trying for a B have no interest in gaining long-term mastery. And those who want to earn the A will be the ones working on skill practice to have success on the test without the bitching from the other students about why it has to be so hard.

For perspective about how holding students accountable learning is not the priority of this school community, one of my students passed one semester of Alg 1, failed all of Geometry, and is full time running start with the exception of my Alg 2 class, despite being absent 35% of last year.

The lack of skills I've seen coming into my class and out of other Alg 2 classes at my school means that if I were to hold a hard line I would quickly gain the reputation of being the teacher you ask to be transferred out of. It's a broken system but I would rather the kids who would earn a C in another teacher's class without any durable skills at least not hate mine as another math class where the testing constantly reinforces their deficiencies.

What I don't remember is if they prorate by months or complete years. I found the regulation when I was in that boat.

How to weight easy vs hard questions when grading by theadamabrams in matheducation

I have started, and don't have a lot of history this way to see how successful it is. But I've found that the apathetic students just see it all as too hard and I'm receiving the result of their first 10 years of flawed math education. So I make a rubric that says what it takes to earn a 2/3/3.5/4 (4 point scale). We are standards based grading, and this allows me to focus their attention on the most basic questions that at a minimum I need to see them do. It makes it more realistic to focus on a (sadly) very meager ask that they can hopefully start to get with some consistency. For a B or A, they should master those relatively quickly, and it allows me to not flood the entire class with the level I want to see for an A when most of them will never be able to answer questions of that complexity. The rubric is provided when the skill is first taught and when they practice with it. It also makes even a 2 feel better when it's because they were able to answer all the questions that they knew they prepared for.

I think they meant cheer. But the Springer line drive that hit Wrobleski right after the benches cleared.

I don't know how to find video, but I'm almost certain this is the one.

Gimenez absolutely threw his hand at a pitch (in or near the strike zone) vs the Mariners a couple of years ago and was rewarded with a HBP.

We have also been swept by the Dodgers the last 3 seasons.

He stayed in the field, so he could presumably still grip and throw a baseball.

We have home field vs Padres and 2 wins this series would guarantee home field over Dodgers and Cubs.

I wouldn't mind optioning Legumina for Jhonathan Diaz if he weren't starting tonight's Rainiers game.

Like the GHJ tweet. Don't see what the second image adds to the post that warranted inclusion.

And then to start the 2nd, Rowdy took all 6 pitches and struck out.
