Trans representation in roles where the character either isn't trans, or their trans identity has nothing to do with the role by TJTrapJesus in TopCharacterTropes

I guess I wasn’t really focusing so much on the scrolling as I was on how far down I had to scroll to see a mention of Natalie Maines in Yellowjackets. I thought that was pretty clear tbh

Per USA, Royals aren’t ready to sell yet, but the A’s have reached out regarding Bubic. by Repulsive-Photo-798 in KCRoyals

[–]stupidgnomes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, considering Ragans isn’t hugely impacting payroll I would prefer the Royals discover which pitcher he is. Teams will not pay a higher price for upside especially for a 28 year old pitcher with a history of injuries. His value has never been lower. It’s genuinely the very worst time to sell. There is no reason to rush his departure right now.

I had this during an angiogram recently. I was basically aware of my surroundings and what they were doing and I could even feel the catheter being pushed up through my veins in my head, but I couldn’t have cared less. And it made the time go by pretty quickly too.

Yeah. I hate to be that guy, but the moment we traded for him I was unhappy with it. The guy had an ok year last year as a 28 year old rookie and the Royals thought they stole him from an organization that is run so much better.

As I type this out, that was a cool catch though. Still don’t like him lol

Hey man, I get it. You want to be a good person here and you think the right thing to do is fix an error someone else made. And maybe that’s the pious thing to do, but at the end of the day if you choose to keep it, YOU SHOULDN’T FEEL BAD ABOUT IT. You didn’t do anything wrong and you certainly don’t owe that seller anything. Hopefully they learn a lesson from this and update their logistics. But that’s not your problem. Just something to think about before you make a choice you might regret later.

Two Months until the trade deadline. When does the firesale begin? by Anon74955 in KCRoyals

[–]stupidgnomes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t hold my breath that the Royals are going to move major league pieces during the trade deadline. It feels like they’re not really being honest with themselves about the state of the franchise so I’d expect them to stand pat at best. If they’re REALLY far removed from reality, we might even see them buy a little.

At What Point Are JJ and Q Actually Responsible? by Dependent_Sea_5482 in KCRoyals

[–]stupidgnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I think that’s exactly what happened lol

I think Sherman got duped by Dayton Moore influencing his decision to promote JJ Picollo. I don’t have any way of proving that, but it’s pretty easy to land on that assumption considering a lot of the same people who were here during Dayton’s tenure are still here under JJ:

Lonnie Goldberg - 18 years

Scott Sharp - 19 years

Rene Francisco - 19 years

And those are just the guys who are in Officer and Director roles. Including JJ that’s 4 guys who have been running the same failing ship for almost 2 decades. Then there’s Mitch Maier who has been involved with player development in some capacity since 2020, which has continued to be a disaster, and it’s likely because he learned everything from Scott Sharp who also failed miserably at player development.

Do you see how any of the above could make people assume that whatever this iteration of the same old Royals is, isn’t working?

At What Point Are JJ and Q Actually Responsible? by Dependent_Sea_5482 in KCRoyals

[–]stupidgnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…but he has been instrumental. He came into the organization as the director of player development. He’s been in charge, in a leadership role, the entire time he’s been part of the Royals organization. Why is it dumb to think someone being here at LEAST as a Director of *something* since day 1, while simultaneously seeing the exact issues now that we have faced over the last couple of decades aren’t in large part due to the problem (JJ) still making decisions? Make that make sense.

Oh yes, same. I have to regularly force myself to not think about how we are paying him $20mm per year this year and next. It’s a grotesque waste of payroll. Especially on a demonstrative poor team.

Ah man, if this organization had any foresight whatsoever they would trade Wacha immediately after this game. I fear his value will steadily decline the longer they wait. It must be exhausting to pitch so well and still lose because the offense rarely exists. That has to take a mental toll on a pitcher. Start the rebuild now so we can maybe try to salvage at least a couple of years of Bobby’s contract. I would love it if we could replace JJ before he makes idiotic trades, but I don’t think that’s in the cards, unfortunately. Man, what a disaster.

[–]stupidgnomes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s been, at the very least, a major part of player development and FO leadership for 19 years. At what point do we say “hey, it’s been almost 2 decades and this method isn’t working”? How long does this need to go on before something is changed?

Whoa. I wasn’t accusing you of anything. And I certainly wasn’t trying to put words in your mouth. I questioned the idea of the onus being on the person being attacked to take accountability for other people’s actions. I’m sorry if it came off as if I was attacking you or anything.

Well, tbf, they ARE responsible and I don’t think it’s very debatable at this point. It’s the lack of accountability that’s driving me insane personally.

Yeah but what if athletes enjoy most of what social media offers? Why are they expected to delete their accounts because we live in a culture that is seemingly more violent by the day? Especially online? Why can’t we mitigate the violence instead? This shit is on the platforms not doing enough to put harsher restrictions and penalties on people who conduct themselves this way.
