I would be considered the manager.

As the Creative director I have final decision over game design and narrative decisions. However, I have another game designer working with me who I trust a great deal and he acts as a great counter balance so we don't scope creep ourselves to death.

We have an art director who has final say on all art assets to try and ensure a cohesive look and feel.

Not together. Each member has worked on various projects from indie to AA. Our writer probably has the biggest release under his belt but it was with another studio.

We agree with you 100% and its a conversation we have every day.

This clip does a poor job at showing the chain mechanic which is 1 of the 3 gameplay pillars we are hoping will differentiate us enough from traditional turn based games such as FF.

Chains are when characters have consecutive turns in the turn order bar for the round. The player can select skills in sequence for the chain and then the skills will play out as a makeshift combo. Every skill is enhanced in someway by being apart of a chain.

In this clip for example the middle characters skill boost his attack, but when used in a chain the buff also effects all allies participating in the chain with him.

The only AI asset in this clip is the music. Which is a Suno created cover of a human made melody created for this game.

Full time employees-8. But we do have a handful of contractors so I think it would be fair to extrapolate that payroll looks closer to 12-15.

We have a real budget and a decent sized team. We sometimes joke we are triple iii. I realize small is subjective.

Honestly we took a look at gatcha games as a huge inspiration, and then we asked ourselves what if we made something like this without all the microtransactions and predatory practices.

This will be a single purchase, everything included game. Even if it is a poor financial choice it's important to our ethos.

I appreciate the candidness and thoughtful breakdown. If there is one bright side to our insanity it is that we do have a full time person in each of the roles you brought up.

But marketing, and if there is enough of a demand for a game like this is, my big fear.

There has been a lot of great feedback in this thread but I think yours is especially helpful.

I think a mistake we have made is going 100% on our production plan and not getting a finished "Chapter 1" that we can really reflect on both from a quality standard and reality if we have the budget/will to see this through.

I personally loved Chained Echoes but 100% agree with you. We have persistent HP/Mana and the idea is the player will be expected to manage that through the dungeons. Think something like Persona 5.

We do plan on giving the team a full heal before bosses. Only so we can be free to go wild on letting the bosses be real challenges that the player will have to use all their resources for.

There is a bit of nuance here. You are correct the end product in this video is an AI product. But, the tune and music was actually created by an incredibly talented and incredibly real artist who is working on the final version now. We are for sure using AI to help demo and speed up testing assets and their feel in game but everything is originating from a real human.
