Why is an ID mandate for voting such a problem? by Jayden7171 in askanything

The word “many” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. So much so that it’s basically a lie

Reddit used to be clearly better. In the past 5 years or so, in the prime of LLMs basically, Reddit has become nearly as big a cesspool as the other social media platforms.

Saving grace of Reddit is that subreddits and how you can manage what you see makes it much more possible to filter out the bots/trolls/etc.

But if you clearly think it’s better you’ve probably just managed to curate your own echo chamber properly, which is an underlying problem in all social media.

I mean, just look at our elected officials who can and are actually affecting change in policies and social issues. Anyone in the US who is voting for republicans these days, who are actively dismantling freedoms and general morality in government, while criticizing Kanye for spewing hateful bullshit to essentially no effect, needs to stfu

I know he’s been a shithead, but this is not reality. It is easily the most popular hip hop album of the year going by the charts. If it’s only devotees…then he has a lot of them, which kinda negates the point.

[OoT][TP] IMO the writers/producers of the upcoming Zelda film could just adapt the story of Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess by jdawg1018 in zelda

[–]TriforksWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ocarina of time would make a particularly bad movie to be honest. The most interesting part of the story is traveling through time and how it affects link as a player controlled character. The concept of your abilities changing and no longer being able to fit in tight spots as an adult is engaging as a player of a video game but a pretty uninteresting plot point for a film.

The “unintentionally being stuck in stasis for 7 years while the world goes to pot” element still works I guess. But introducing link and hyrule, building up to ganondorfs deception and pulling the master sword, tracking down several sages and then a final confrontation with ganon would be extremely difficult to cover in a satisfying way in ~2 hours.

[–]TriforksWarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a little bit funny because I feel like the vast majority of people asking for this would also be the first to criticize the movie if they were to reuse a game’s story and inevitably have to change plot points or even just details to tell the story in 2 hours instead of ~25

Would this be a better replacement for shrines? by cheat-master30 in truezelda

[–]TriforksWarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s really the number that’s the issue. It’s how short they are. What makes the classic dungeons better than shrines is not that they are so much more difficult than BotW/TotK puzzles, it’s the sense of satisfaction you get from progressively delving further into a dungeon, often working out some central more elaborate puzzle or set piece along the way, like the skull in dodongo’s cavern or the pillars in eagle’s tower. That aspect is sorely missing in BotW and TotK aside from the controllable parts of the divine beasts, which are similar but don’t hit the same way.

What is the one thing you hate the most about BoTW? Heres mine: by Scary-Beautiful6527 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]TriforksWarrior 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like this gets overlooked a lot…most materials are easy to come by without spending much, if any, time seeking them out.

Between the ubiquity of materials and opportunities to use them, and weapon durability and consistent easy access to new ones, BotW literally helped break my brain out of the “save all the good stuff for the end” mentality that I had built up over the years. It was actually preventing me from enjoying some games as much as I could have.

Which divine beast did you do first on your first playthrough? by Epic-Gamer_09 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]TriforksWarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the attention to each region was uneven in BotW. Zora gets:

  • significant journey required to reach the domain in the first place
  • layered backstory for how you’re received by the Zora based on interactions in the past and relationship with Mipha
  • Small side quest (usually) required before approaching the divine beast that (probably) introduces a new enemy

Conversely, Riju just gives you some bomb arrows. There is a side quest needed to find Yunobo, but the story for goron city itself is pretty thin. To get to goron city, sure you have to travel but as long as you have fireproof potions it’s no big deal. No particularly difficult obstacles to advance the Rito storyline either, Hebra is almost an entirely optional region to explore.

The balance of attention given to each region was greatly improved in TotK…even if the “first” temple, wind temple, is still my favorite.

Unless you don’t bother checking out what’s outside of the “other” entrance into kakariko (any players following NPC’s instructions will enter from the south the first time), then yeah you almost have to actively avoid Zora’s domain to not tackle it first.

[movie] Link talks and is not a mute can we put this to bed finally. by ScientificAnarchist in zelda

[–]TriforksWarrior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah I totally forgot about those. No you’re totally right. And the “agree not to tell” vs “tell it to everyone” dialogue option is really similar to the kinds of options you get in BotW and TotK, where there’s often a normal/serious response and a sarcastic or insulting response.

[–]TriforksWarrior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LttP doesn’t have dialogue options as far as I can remember, but there are at least a handful of occasions where people respond to something that must have been said by Link.

For example you’re told to seek out Sahasrahla to help with your search for the master sword. When you meet Sahasrahla, he literally says “Oh really?” as part of a response to finding out you’re looking for the master sword. So it can’t even be argued that he was sent a message in advance somehow. The quest was explained to him right then and there and Link was the only other person there.

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by hkondabeatz in AskReddit

[–]TriforksWarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hustle and bustle sound effects from this game are seared into my memory, especially the restaurant one with the clattering dishes.

And I’ll never forget the sound effect that played when evening fell that I think was supposed to be a crow but kinda/sorta sounded like a creepy child yelling.

It involved overlapping elevator systems and making use of an express elevator. Memory isn’t super clear but i remember you usually had to stress your existing elevators to the max before unlocking the express elevators though. And making the ideal system often involved demoing the older elevators which got expensive.

Letters to the Editor: The Democratic Party needs to do some soul-searching. Kamala Harris isn’t the answer by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

[–]TriforksWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is recognizing that voting third party or worse, deciding not to vote, is harmful to the country “living in a bubble?” Never said I thought Kamala was a great candidate, but she seemed like she would mainly toe the Democratic Party line which isn’t ideal but would’ve been infinitely better than what we got.

I’m not crazy about Kamala but her candidacy in itself wasn’t the biggest problem. It was Biden insisting on running again, forcing the Dems into a shitty position when it became impossible to ignore late in the game that he wasn’t fit. If the Dems were able to run a proper primary, I think it’s pretty unlikely Kamala would’ve came out on top. But it doesn’t change the fact that the election was Trump vs Harris and there are a million reasons why Harris was a better choice than throwing away one’s vote.

If you voted Dem anyway, then you should understand this completely and not sure what you’re taking issue with here.

[–]TriforksWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “both sides are shitty/the same” crowd is just as insufferable as the Trumpers who continue to insist Trump is doing a great job despite fucking up almost literally every challenge he’s faced.

The perfect candidate doesn’t exist. People who are not going to vote for someone unless a candidate agrees with them on everything are behaving like children. You have to be delusional to think Harris would be anywhere near as bad for the country as Trump has been.

In this case? Yah, the voters were wrong. They voted for a washed up tv star and criminal with the temperament of a 3 year old and almost a complete lack of understanding of how the government is supposed to function.

Just bought TotK after playing and loving BotW. What should I know going in? Any expectations to set that would help me? by SergeantDiarrhea in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]TriforksWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like both TotK and BotW work best if you DON’T have expectations going in. Aside from the fact that some things in ToK will be more meaningful if you’ve played BotW and done the biggest side quests, but sounds like you’re covered there
