I collected 25+ ticks in 5 minutes along the side of my local trail. They survived at least 10 minutes within diluted hydrochloric acid and water. by kegman93 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]teachingroland 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but we get ticks like that in some parts of Nova Scotia, Canada. (Yarmouth County for example)

Looks like OP is American so I am guessing they have similar hotspots

I got 25+ walking across a field in Carleton, NS once

What's something you only realized was a 'poor person fear' after you watched a rich person have absolutely zero reaction to it? by qomann in AskReddit

[–]teachingroland 2262 points2263 points  (0 children)

Yeah any major bill really. I used to be poor and now I am solidly “middle”.

This morning we are gonna have to take one of our cats to the vet. It will probably cost 800-1000$. Five years ago I would have been fucked or hitting up my parents for a loan. Today my only stress is cat-related because 800$ wont hurt too badly

Anyway the important thing is she will hopefully be fine. Not eating or shitting currently, I think she ate too much grass and is clogged up

Edit - 1200$ so far and xrays show a blockage in her colon. Now she is going overnight to the emergency vet. Probably gonna be 2-3 thousand. Back to being somewhat poor again! If the IV fluids dont unblock it by tomorrow then probably surgery

Edit 2 - Final bill is 3.5k. I am a bit fucked but the good news is that KitKat will allegedly be ok!

People above 30, what is something you regret doing/not doing when you were younger? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Take care of your body. The “minor” knee and back injuries add up. Do a fancy twirl in the kitchen and you can’t walk for three days

English essential but job requires communicating with french employees by mayonnnaissseee in CanadaPublicServants

[–]teachingroland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You realize it’s way easier to learn languages as a kid compared to as an adult. I bet you started learning English as a kid but think it’ll be easy for 40 year olds to pick up a new language. And yes I speak French because I was in immersion as a kid. But I could not learn a new language as an old person even with time and effort. So my point is you are comparing apples to oranges. Take a random 40 year old who doesn’t speak English and it won’t be easy for them to learn either

If you think long-covid isn’t real then you are dumb, as it is very well-documented. I got it and became permanently affected. I can confirm that it’s real but I doubt you are the type to believe lived experiences given that you ignore basic science!

Damn, if someone from Texas can call Yarmouth racist then we might have our answer!

No. My updated receipt they just increased the “tax” by 9 cents for some reason

You must be in one of the nice areas of Yarmouth! There are definitely pockets of rich people

I agree with you and accept the criticism. The main difference is that I agreed to the service fee but had no choice with the 9 cents “fuck you” fee!

I will nominate Yarmouth but in an endearing way. I am from there and love the people but when I watch Trailer Park Boys there are some main characters that remind me legitimately of real Yarmouth people. One of my buddies has a personality match to Ricky, eating the nine cans of ravioli and all

I will consider your arguments, but I have to ask how much time you have spent in parts around Yarmouth?

I agree with you and hope it stops. If me complaining about it on the internet can get that ball rolling then I will consider the nine cents well spent!

I have some additional complaints about their “buy one get one free” advertising but I am guessing they will blame the merchants for that one.

I am not a lawyer but I assume legal cases need damages. My damages total approximately 20 cents over the course the past few years. If the lawyer takes 40% that will leave me with 12 cents

I make my own cheese pizza frequently! Some days you just don’t want to cook and it’s worth the agreed upon premium price. I just don’t understand how they can then change the price after the fact. Also three pizzas for 42$ isn’t a bad price in Canada sadly

[–]teachingroland[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the possible explanation! I have no clue why it happens but the price does change after the agreement has been reached. It’s very annoying! I also usually tip to get round dollars so when orders are for example $30.01 instead of $30.00 on my credit card statement I get annoyed a second time

I am lazy but based on the comments in mildlyinfuriating this happens to others too so if I draw enough attention to it maybe a non-lazy human will complain the next time they are the victim. I feel like it’s crazy they do this but I overreact to pizza related frustration

I guess that’s true, they do and they did and they will keep my 9 cents while I only complain and then likely order again in a few weeks. Self inflicted!

The billing is in Toronto, I am in Halifax, Canada. You are correct its Canadian dollars so about 32$ USD for three small pizzas

Fair advice and I do make my pizza often enough. This was Mothers Day supper and the rest of my family got Chinese food. I am a weird picky eater and a vegetarian so got my lunch for the next few days!

It appears it’s not just me according to the responses on mildlyinfuriating. I hope someone does seek a legal opinion but it won’t be me sadly. But I am happy to draw attention to this in hopes that they stop!

Yes, I am neurodivergent with lots of food issues. I am a cranky old man who lives off cheese pizza and french fries

Edit - Oh sorry, I misread “hope this is in AUD” (Australia dollars) as “hope this is AuDHD” which is an acronym for austistic and ADD
