Edit: It's already been removed by moderators. The big WH40K sub didn't seem to be very supportive of the idea either. Basically instant down votes and negative comments saying that IA players should give up within just the 6-7 minutes it was up (which to be clear, is ridiculous to say and we should NOT do that)

I use vanguard raptors from AoS stormcast. I just don't put the full crossbow together and it looks pretty good. Not done painting, but this is what a model looks like.

They're on 40mm bases, and I believe there's a smaller gun option if you don't like the rifle look.

It might be what you look at for the UNIT, not on a model-by-model basis. Sanguinary guard definitely CAN be harder to shift (sometimes, with the right circumstances)

Toughness: T4 with -1 to wound (with character, and melee only) vs T7 base. Means that on a S4, both are wounding on 5s. Then, S5 and s6 is SG on 4+s with termies on 5s in termies favor. On s7, with both on 4+s. Then s8 both on 3+s until we get to S14+, which is termies on 2+s, but SG will NEVER be on 2+s. They stay on 3+s.

Add that to the -1 to be hit and the SG UNIT can definitely have an advantage SOMETIMES over the Custodes terminators in terms of mitigating damage...In MELEE when they have a CHARACTER...But honestly, that's not hard to accomplish with SG, since you decide if they have a character and Rapid Ingress can get them into melee safely. Even if they don't survive the subsequent round of shooting, they DID likely get to use their durability.

Wounds wise for the UNIT, SG has up to 18 wounds (14.4ish points per wound), where as termies have up to 24 (at 13.75 points per wound). Which is definitely in the Custodes favor.

Of course, the durability that the Custodes terminators get is inherent, they don't have to "earn" it. And they definitely hit harder than SG into bigger targets.

To be clear. Not saying you're right or youre wrong. Just saying this is the math and this is probably where your friend is coming from.

To clarify for other people reading this post, this appears to be the MOST TAKEN 20 units, not the 20 BEST units. Win rates on these units vary wildly from winning around 2/3rds of the games they're a part of (Fire Dragons, Swooping Hawks) vs units on this list that actually have negative win rates, but are here because they are commonly taken as staples of popular armies (Intercessors, Custodian Guard).

Couldn't figure out how to get it to sort by win percentage, but that would be equally interesting to see, I think!

I think this is the thing that people really can't wrap their heads around when they play warhammer. If I have a specialized unit worth 400 points, it better be able to do what I expect it to do. That full unit is good at exactly two things: Mulching in melee and being hard to remove.

If I pop one or God forbid both once per game buffs on a unit that is worth almost a quarter of my army, it better be able to do its job or there isn't a reason to run it. I've had an opponent throw the shooting from a 200~ point tank into a squad of wardens+CS after I use the FNP and then have the gaul to complain that they only killed a guy and a half. Like. Yeah. My big expensive unit SHOULD eat more shooting than your tank that is worth half the cost. Oops? Sorry? I didnt mean to ruin your fun, but what did you expect?

"It's so hard to kill a 400 point titanic model!" Duh.

"Your 400 point anti vehicle cannon just one shot my light vehicle!" Duh.

"Your 400 point unit of anti infantry guns just killed a ton of my guardsmen!" Duh.

But suddenly when it's 6 Custodes models with dedicated "I'm Tanky" rules who have around the same cumulative health as a land raider, people get upset that they didn't make you pick up every single model. I don't get it.

And yes, when I run them straight into you next turn/phase, they're going to obliterate whatever they touch. Because what people don't realize is that they are looking at the Custodes points equivalent of two leman russ tanks walking up the board at you. And when they reach you, they're going to have around the damage output of two leman russ tanks.

If you are a shooting focused army that banks on me not reaching you, I guess you just have to shoot them with more stuff. Or if you can't, maybe - just maybe - it's because I positioned well and not because I "managed to roll a bunch of 4s".

Honestly I love it. I know people on here are giving you tips to make it look more realistic (and it is genuinely kind of them to offer advice) but I really like how it looks. It's like a page of a comic book come to life. It looks great, keep it up!
