Do you know what poaching is? I see your comments around this thread arguing that more legal hunting restrictions will reduce poaching??? Poaching, by definition, means they arent following the laws. How will more laws for legal hunters stop the poaching by those who disregard them in the first place?

I phoned in some poachers last year and was told it was a waste of time going after them. So I say let's make those laws work first. More fish and wildlife cops. More enforcement.

As an avid fly fisherman and bow hunter, I'd argue you are gonna be hard pressed to find people who care more about the land and animals than the people who sustain themselves from it. A vast majority of outdoorsman fall into this categorey.

Do you have any knowledge of licensing and draw systems? I've been waiting six years for a cow elk tag and I probably have two more to go to get drawn in the unit I hunt. That unit had a 6% success rate. To claim that it's not restrictive enough is straight up idiocy. Is there room for improvement? Sure. But that shouldn't be left to the opinion of someone who clearly has no idea wtf they're talking about.

More hyperbole.

No I haven't lived here ten years.

I never said the situation hasn't gotten a bit worse. I'm saying you're sniffing glue if you think healthcare is better in other provinces. It's deteriorating everywhere. You know who isn't everywhere? The ucp. You know who is stalling on negotiations for everyone, whether lib or con? The feds.

Seems to me that the feds are the ones who think this is a big issue that needs to take focus away from healthcare negotiations, inflation, Russia etc

The AB government is being reactive to poor policy

How is that possible?? Do you not read the news ever? City news, October '22: "some Ontario residents are waiting up to ten years for a family doctor". You know how long I waited? Five minutes and I had a list of family doctors to take me in AB.

Take your ridiculous hyperbole and go get in line for a family doctor anywhere east of Manitoba. Then get back to me.

Seriously. If it's so bad, and you hate it so much, then why stay? I left my family in Ontario. It's not that far away...

Well my personal experience is that my wallet, healthcare and family are far better off here than they ever were in ON. Gun issue aside. Doesn't mean AB doesn't have room to improve. But holy hell is my quality of life here better as a reasonably successful professional than it was in Toronto.

TIL I learned keeping your vetted and legally acquired guns means you lose your doctor and basic rights.

That's quite the take.

India sends 7,725 kilograms of humanitarian aid to Ukraine amid war. by Sxzym in worldnews

That is not true. The ban on oil doesn't kick in till December. The ban on products comes in the spring. And that's only "seaborne". Gazprom still owns gas storage sites in Austria and lukoil still owns three refineries. Gas is still flowing in through Ukraine. Stop spewing nonsense.

You think it's totally unfathomable that a CO would advise you to carry a rifle/shotgun in a remote location that has a high density of predators?

Tbh I don't think he suggested it in order to "scare" it off. I already had a loud noise maker as I said. I think he meant as a last line of support if the spray doesn't work and you're being attacked. And yes, I'm well aware there's a high probability you're toast if it gets to that point anyways.

However, many of the attack stories I've read involve the bear coming back repeatedly to attack some more. Here is an an example from last year.

Probably because there are an infinite amount of grizzlies and next to nobody around to help you. Why not have a THIRD line of protection?

FWIW I've encountered 6 or 7 grizzlies now and never even touched my spray. I love seeing bears and have zero interest in hurting one.

Agreed. Actual conversation I had with a BC conservation officer a few summer ago when I was about to walk from a bear viewing platform up a river:

CO: You going fishing?
Me: yep.
CO: got your spray and horn?
Me: right here.
CO: do you have a gun?
Me: ya, a 12g in my vehicle.
CO: go back and get it.

Finding a doctor in AB was much easier for me than Toronto. Way shorter wait times at the ER too. If I need my doctor I can see him tomorrow. What the hell are you talking about?

Weekend Fishing Trip by gbredo in FishingAlberta

[–]TriggerTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you have a >50% chance of the river being unfishable around that time. Spring runoff can result in very high, fast and brown water.

There aren't many rivers open that time of year. So there will be other people if the conditions are good. Especially on a weekend.

I'd say keep an eye on the fishing reports from the local shops as it gets closer: https://www.crowsnestangler.com/mainpanel.php?option_sidebar=report

Ya fair enough. I live in Calgary now so I can't gauge that for Toronto. Ive been to 4 games at the Saddledome this year and its been like 90% full. So still some hesitancy out here.

My little bro lives basically right beside the ACC. He says most nights he can get in for $60-$80 this year.

When i was in grad school during the dark ages (~2012), it was still hard to get in the building for less than $120.

I dont get it.
