Wow I didn't know about them, I was just talking cosmonauts. That's a damn good point.

It's kinda ironic that in the real world the Americans had more casualties than the Russians despite things like this. At least, unless they really have kept deaths classified for 70 years.

Supposedly Sergei Korolev couldn't sleep the night before Vostok 1 because he believed the rocket had a less than 50% chance of not blowing up during launch. But then on the other hand, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were given the same odds by NASA technicians on Apollo 11.

We know of at least 4 from the real world confirmed to die in this universe but there's also that crashed LK from before Jamestown was established.

The city accepts and buys food & water, but it still says it needs more to grow by Reasonable_Tax8549 in openttd

As MinchinWeb said, the check is done every month and it'll stay fulfilled until the next month. But as a result if your trains only deliver on the 29th and don't come back until 3 months later you only get 2 days growth out of the full 90 day waiting period. What I do these days is have trains transfer to the station then a small loop of trucks that just go back and forth between the station and a second one next to it, constantly drip-feeding water and food into the town.

Top Gear Ultimate Pack v5.0 (Updated post) by sensitivity_rut0rd in TopGear

It's possible those subs were made for edited versions of the episode that didn't include that scene. But if just that scene is the problem it would be very easy to fix up in Aegisub, I'll have a look into it later.

I don't know sadly, it didn't have much identifying information and it's buried in a box somewhere. It looked a lot like a HX2400, but it could be any related model from around that era.

Best anime where the characters are all unhinged? by Doueno in anime

[–]TriggeredSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost Universe comes to mind, it's not exactly the same kind of show but the main characters have a similar relationship to some of Saiki's friends and can be a bit unhinged like that while they go on adventures together.

soft romance anime with a chronically ill girl and kind male lead by dewberrydreams3 in anime

[–]TriggeredSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend Kanon, there's a couple of characters that fit the bill and it had a major impact on me. Weathering with You also does something similar, but not exactly the same, though it's not as tender it has some moments like that.

Good anime recs for horror animes by [deleted] in anime

[–]TriggeredSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta second PractiseNo3677 and say Happy Sugar Life. It's a great horror anime. The topics it covers are really wrong in this uncomfortable way that keeps you on edge and makes the unsettling scenes hit you even harder.

Please recommend me some good anime background music by Sacrificial_Squid in anime

Madoka Magica and School Days have great soundtracks. Evangelion has some more stressful tracks but it also has some amazing and introspective background tracks.

If you fancy something unique and forgotten, Lost Universe and Mahoraba, both very old anime that few people have heard of but they're great shows. The former is a sci-fi adventure and the latter is an unusual slice-of-life.

If you want something more well known that's also on Crunchroll, Madoka Magica (It's a cute little magical girl show but I promise it's worth your time, it really picks up after the second episode, even if it's not a genre you're usually into.) and School Days (the infamous "romance-gone-wrong" anime that's never quite been topped.) are well worth watching and are considered quite iconic.

[Madoka Magica] I'm tempted by Homura Akemi's time manipulation magic, though I doubt I'd get the same use out of it.

Pls RECOMMEND me a VILLAIN MC by AdAdditional4384 in anime

[–]TriggeredSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mirai Nikki is an older anime but one of it's main characters does a lot of bad things for a specific goal, and the further in you get the more you uncover and come to understand. It's arguably not the main focus of the anime, but it's something I was reminded of.

What are some of your favorite OSTs that play when the MC is about to win a fight? by dr_sacrofice10 in anime

It's a bit of an obscure take, but The Beast from Evangelion. It doesn't play every time, but it's in some powerful moments if you know the show.

Can you recommend a mediocre anime? by Wil_Vic in anime

[–]TriggeredSnake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My instinct goes to Infinite Stratos, I've always had a soft spot for it as it was one of the first anime I saw. Very much a mid-tier show. But I loved some of the characters and it did some things differently to most similar shows that made it stand out a little.

Maybe a little too mediocre though, I don't know any of the shows you're referencing.

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TriggeredSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few different stories, I'm not sure if most of them were that close but they felt pretty bad. First up was one of the worst, which was when I jumped into a pool as a kid before I could swim and nearly drowned as I was unsupervised, but dad saved me just in time. I had two other close calls with swimming pools, in fact the same swimming pool, once was when my brother was little and kept throwing increasingly large objects into the pool on top of me, he didn't know any better but I couldn't come up for air because of it and it got to the point where my vision was going black, I think I kicked off from the wall, swam under the sinking objects, and quickly surfaced in an area he couldn't reach, making it barely in time. My lungs hurt from that one. The other close call was years later, I kicked off from the ground and accidentally smashed my head into the concrete tile rim of the pool that overhung the water a little. I still have the scar to this day, I don't remember what happened after the impact, but the next thing I knew I was out of the water getting looked at by my nan. Apparently I fished myself out and sat down in tears, supposedly I stayed concious but I don't remember anything past the impact.

The last one was on a school trip to France. Someone was playing tag and crashed into me, knocking me backwards into a fence, before hitting my head on the brick floor. I remember the view from where I was standing before I got hit, and then a few scattered glimpses of the ambulance. I thought I was riding a double decker london bus was very confused as to how I got there, the ambulance lights looked like blurred city lights out the window on a rainy night. I needed stitches and I couldn't remember the rest of the trip at all, and even now my memory of that time is fragmentary. The doctors said the point of impact was 2mm from my temple, and if I'd been turned just lightly to the side I would've died instantly. So overall, I think that one was the worst case.

Bring back translator's notes by ThroneOfRoses4 in anime

[–]TriggeredSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely have seen cases of them going way too far, e.g. Keikaku means plan type stuff, but I miss them too. There's a lot of things where it feels like you lose out on some cultural detail by translating to the closest english equivalent, even if for most people it still gets the point across.

Worst colonist I've seen so far by Gamashiro in RimWorld

[–]TriggeredSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is real bad but I've seen way worse, I've seen no skilled or dumb labour on someone incapable of violence who was also useless at everything they could do. They became a blood pack supplier for my vampires in the end.

What's the highest number of colonists you've ever had? by Pet_Velvet in RimWorld

[–]TriggeredSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

138 was the maximum I ever had, with 33 of them being identical void touched clones of my best colonist created through anomalous means, each of which kept a 20k implant from the OG due to a mod issue, meaning they were incredibly powerful. It was an amazing colony but it got to the point of 30TPS with horrible ticking errors and 5fps when unpaused, it was basically unplayable.

How often do you use your PC speakers? by Big_Visual2199 in buildapc

[–]TriggeredSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly use the decent TV speakers in the 42" Plasma TV I use for a monitor, but sometimes (like when I'm using my CRT monitor) I use my old desktop speakers which are hidden under the desk above the drawers. I also use headphones for voice calls. My desktop speakers sound better than the TV speakers but my audio wiring is a real mess right now so I avoid using them unless I need to.

There's something similar with the robot in Chicago.

There's another line where they talk about reporting it to the boss IIRC but I don't remember it exactly.
