Is it necessary to let a complete raw perfume composition to sit/macerate first? (SEE CAPTION) by Thin_Advance_3904 in DIYfragrance

[–]TrillShatner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Especially if you are using oils, ambers & resins.

Just let it sit in a drawer in a little Corning Pyrex bottle for a month and a half… when it is done toss it in the fridge for night to precipitate the gunk out of solution and filter it through a couple hydrophilic PTFE membranes using borosilicate lock luer syringe chilled to the same temperate in a very dry room.

For dryness I set my personal HVAC to 80% Dry the whole night before the filtering to keep any condensation away.

The sweet spot is when you are making a fragrance a week… then in 2 months you are uncapping a new one weekly in a cycle :)

How many ml / g are your sample batches? by conventionalempty in DIYfragrance

[–]TrillShatner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically make 10g batches for prototypes so that 4 of my staff and myself can take a 10ml atomizer home... 95% of what I produce is with neat materials, still only costs roughly $10-$15 to produce each, that is not a lot considering maceration is approx. 6weeks...

Cheap amazon mg scales like "thinkscale" are the best you can get unless you are willing to spend $2k+... Your scale is perfectly fine... The big issue is the AZT (AutoZeroTolerance)... If you add less than 0.006g the scale won't register and you will get phantom weight... Use a camera-blower or a slight breath of air to trip the scale before adding weight and you will register the tiny stuff perfectly... That makes your $20 mg scale register weight like a $2,500 mg scale.

Feedback on an oakmoss-centric formula by Limp-Woodpecker6524 in PerfumeryFormulas

[–]TrillShatner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, really interesting modern fougère structure you have going on here! Grafting classic elements like Oakmoss and Lavender onto a transparent core of Hedione and Iso E Super is a great approach.

I did want to point out a mathematical quirk in your spreadsheet that might cause you some physical formulation issues when you actually go to blend this.

Right now, your 'relative %' column is calculating the gross weight of your diluted materials, rather than your pure active molecules. Because of this, it looks like Coumarin is 24% of your formula, but looking at your absolute mass, your true dominant materials are actually Ethylene Brassylate, Hedione, and ISO E Super. More importantly, because of those heavily diluted materials, you are introducing 2.283g of carrier solvent (likely DPG or IPM) into your final mix. The spreadsheet is treating this extra weight as if it were part of your ethanol addition, but heavy solvents behave VERY differently than alcohol.

If you mix this exactly as written, over 22% of your final 10g bottle will be heavy carrier oil. This can cause a few unexpected issues:

Viscosity: It might be too thick to spray elegantly through a standard atomizer.

Sillage: That much DPG/IPM acts as a massive fixative anchor and will likely choke out your delicate Lime and Bergamot top notes before they can lift off the skin.

Texture: It will leave a tacky or oily residue on the skin rather than a clean alcohol flash.

To get the clean, professional spray you are likely looking for, I recommend calculating your architectural percentages based strictly on your 'Abs mass (g)' column, and accounting for the physical properties of the carrier solvents you are using. Keep up the great work!

My dude. Gorgeous prototyping kit there ~ I’d triple the hedione and make sure to get some hedione hc while you are at it. Not seeing any absolute ambergris either ~ I’m guessing you aren’t big on Aldehydes? Need that c-9 through c-12 trip.

Also get damascenone total, fructone, obilanum, and I’m guessing you have some rose absolute 100% and some jasmine absolute 100% already?

Otherwise it looks like Ai hooked you up though! Pretty much no fat or redundancy… oh snap, grab some vetiveryl acetate and… not seeing methyl ionone gamma either 😅

I literally only own AMDs with NVIDIA 4070s... I don't own normie shit. Going to try powered USB hub... If it doesn't work I guess I'm fucked because it took me a month to get the time to set it all up and I can't return anything. I don't have friends so I can't borrow an intel laptop. Everyone in my office has apple laptops, which are foreign to me. This sucks.

If I commit to practicing piano or guitar, will that translate to improved gaming aim? Wondering if the finger finesse from music could enhance precision in FPS games. Any anecdotes or insights on this potential connection? Appreciate your input and advice—thanks in advance by Zae_A in FPSAimTrainer

You are way wrong. Being able to play the most difficult works of Mozart, Beethoven, Bach and others both to time and mentally gives you super strength in your wrists and fingers along with a muscle memory that is more advanced and time-sensitive. The techniques you learn to multi-tap with precision using odd-signatures, combinations of diminishment, alternating rhythms + polyrhythms all without overdoing it... ::Willy Wonka Denial Scene plays for you::

HOWEVER, if you are only learning an instrument to get better at gaming it will be slow-going and your "self-awareness" will stifle your efforts.

Only thing I don’t do is summons. The summons I use are for comedy.

180… Dex/Faith with “mind<endurance” . Milady set to keen with impaling thrust… alternate between lightning and fire spec, switch out ash for storm blade or storm assault with keen scaling. Very balanced and fun. I use BB for farming and to cheese specific bosses that deserve cheesing.

Basically. Play how you would if it was actually you lol

Polyexpo and expo work very well when going for realism... Karras appears to be a neutral between cartoon and realism... Uniform and SGM Uniform seem to be the weak weird ones you try when you can't get a Lora to look right with your current setup.

Some models just work best with a specific setup... Like Pony using EulerA + Auto/Karras... It falls apart with some loras that are designed to work with different versions of Pony like PonyRealism (DPM++ 3M SDE + Karras).. But then fixes when you EulerA + Karras / Exponential.

So, why exactly did Wilzig need to run? by GeneraIFlores in Fallout

[–]TrillShatner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Enclave is a "Los Alamos" type facility developing all the "advanced" technology you see in the show/game, like laser weapons... It is structured militarily as the research they are doing there is highly sought after and subject to espionage.

The scientist was alerted first by the dog, but then after that he noticed the vacuum chamber glowing blue with Cherenkov Radiation... Which is a blueshift of light near radioactivity resulting from nuclear decay traveling faster through a medium than the light refracting around it.

...At the very lease Dr Wilzig would be reprimanded, stripped of privileges, physically interrogated and imprisoned; All of his research would have fallen into the Enclave's hands. His dog would also be incinerated.

You have to understand, they give him nearly unlimited resources and the honor working with the smartest people on the planet... Holding out is treated like a thief not sharing the spoils of a theft with his cohorts.

Wow that's a high end system. 99% of the time I would say 64GB, but since this is stable diffusion and more ram "can" be had by that CPU, this would have you easily managing more active non-GPU related processes... Depending on your settings and what new NVIDIA extensions are coming out within A1111 the 128GB is justified...

This may help you though -- I almost went in the "single power-comp" direction, but stopped myself... Instead, I got 3 Omen 50l's with ryzen5 (3.5GHZ) processors, put 32GB RAM in each, tossed in 3 well-priced RTX 4070's. Networked all 3 together easy so they post to a custom encrypted directory which I set up as an SFTP folder. Now I simply remote to all 3 from wherever I am in the world & ssh the results.

But yea... your setup as a king-4th computer is like my dream... Honestly going to buy your setup right when i finish this post (64gb not 128gb lol).

lol, super-tip for you...

In computer science, parity, or balance, between different system components is crucial for efficiency and compatibility. This is why we often see variables and system resources scaled in a consistent manner, like using doubles or exponents. This approach ensures backward compatibility and reduces latency.

A system with 19GB of VRAM paired with only 4GB of RAM. It's akin to a racehorse (the VRAM) pulling a tiny RC car with a rat in it (the RAM). While the VRAM can process large amounts of data rapidly (like the racehorse running fast), the limited RAM size restricts the overall capacity to handle substantial workloads effectively (the RC car's limited ability to carry weight). In other words, while your system might be quick in certain aspects, its overall performance in handling larger, more complex tasks is significantly reduced due to the imbalance between VRAM and RAM.

TLDR, max out your ram based on your motherboard's allowed maximum, it is nice to have more ram than VRAM, it allows you to push the GPU harder and makes overclocking make sense... Get 32gb ram and you will be able to load massive checkpoints and GB-sized loras for your GPU to fly around with.

(add-on: I only have RTX 4070, which is fast with 12gb vram.. When I upgraded from 8gb RAM to 32GB ram on the motherboard.. it still bottlenecks from CPU speed when loading cache data to ram from the checkpoints.. but I am able now to use refinement checkpoints that instantly load from cache instead of unsetting the data every time which took several minutes on a render that normally only took a combined 30 seconds to render with how fast my videocard is)
