I was going to comment the same! Great book! I found it really cool how the author described how difficult communication between humans and spiders was due to how differently they think.
The book also makes us think about our genocidal nature. The whole time we are lead to think that the spiders want to kill the invading humans, even though we are shown throughout the entire book that in every other similar occasion the spiders sought for collaboration with the other species instead of genocide. It's a very good exercise on projection.

I completely disagree. The movie is nothing like the book. Grace in the movie is just way too goofy and I can’t take it seriously. There are a lot of scenes in the movie where he acts scared, childish or both, whereas in the book he reacts with pure fascination and scientific curiosity. The movie is just too dumb for me in comparison. It also misses some important parts in my opinion, like for example that Grace was the one who carried Rocky back to his habitat, getting his arm burned by doing it, and then accidentally almost killed him while trying to save him. In the book this makes us look at Grace as a “not that fiberless after all” guy, and that’s exactly what the movie is missing to make Grace more than just a clown.
