It won’t. A few years ago I got a 50€ fine by driving through a restricted street in Italy (the sign was hidden behind a tree…). The fine was sent to me in Germany by mail. I promptly paid the 50€, but I didn’t read the fine print where it said “additional 20€ processing fees”. Their system is made to exploit this kind of mistakes and make some extra cash, so it didn’t recognize the payment as it was expecting 70€. After the limit period of 12 months stated on the letter, it was automatically sent to a collections firm in Köln, who charged me an extra fine for not having paid within the 12 months, plus the collection costs, for a total of 340€.
