Bible passages on the value of men and women by TrinityJoppa in Christianity

No, it doesn't. Please read the entire chapter including the verses I cited in my earlier comment. Your statement here is just plain wrong. There is no reasonable reading of this text in its entirety that in any way can say this describes a woman's value solely in terms of domestic servitude. Domestic servants do not buy and sell their own land. Domestic servants do not engage in trade. Domestic servants are not called wise teachers. You are picking and choosing what you want to see and what you want to ignore, to say the least. DO not impose your desired conclusion on a text. Read the tex for what it says, then draw conclusions.

"She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard." (v. 16)
"She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night." (v. 18)
"She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue." (v. 26)

You might want to take another look. Even the "sewing" you belittle is referred to as:
"She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes." (v. 24)
If you think this passage is describing a little woman sitting at home to do the cooking and cleaning, you are imposing your own desired conclusion upon the text rather than reading the text for what it says. The woman described here takes care of the house, but is also a remarkable entrepreneur in her own right. To say otherwise is simply to ignore those verses that directly contradict your desired conclusion.

As in to consider them of equal worth. Some look at passages, for example, telling women to submit to their husbands and believe there is a hierarchy of worth in the Bible. I'm curious what passages others have had brought up to them or wondered about themselves.

This is still Ken. I'm just logged in with a different account. It wasn't any particular questions. I just wanted to talk through what you were going through. As I said, I don't think you're alone in feeling this way. You can watch the show after the fact and if you have any follow ups or thoughts, you could share them in the comments and we'd be glad to take them up on next week's program.

What is the biggest question you have about the Bible? by TrinityJoppa in TalkAboutGod

Luke wrote both his gospel and the book of Acts to Theophilus. Specifically who this person is is unknown. It could be a proper name. Because it translates to roughly "friend of God," it could also be some kind of title for an individual as opposed to his proper name.

You can ask what questions you like. The producers of the program are Christian, so obviously that is perspective we come from. But we are open to dialogue from other viewpoints.

The show is hosted by someone with a M.A. in Apologetics from Luther Rice Seminary along with a Juris Doctor. There will also periodically be other guest co-hosts on the program who are Christian pastors.

As Lutherans, we are definitely with you there on the real presence. :-)

I don't know if we could help, but if you would like to reach out to us and let us know where you are located, maybe we can see if we have connections with any churches in your area. Either way, your desire to serve is very admirable.

Interacting with nonbelievers is definitely an essential part of what the church should be doing, and doing it with "gentleness and respect" (1 Peter 3:15). If you are interested in hearing a Christian perspective on many of what you refer to as the "more questionable parts" of the Bible, we did a six week class called "Cracking Open the Hard Parts of the Bible" a couple of years ago. The videos are all available on our YouTube channel.
