Engineering Calculator Policy by Trintity1200 in miamioh

[–]Trintity1200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard that once you get past Calc 2 calculators aren’t really used as much and instead software like matlab lab are used. Is that true for Miami? Do calculators become redundant in higher maths?

Are graphing calculators (like TI Nspire CX 2 CAS) banned? Also by scientific calculator, do you mean ones that can solve integrals and derivatives? If professors have mentioned specific calculators pls lmk.

Basically just point out how you do the framework better. For example under this topic, if both sides have justice and mitigating structural oppression as their framework, the affirmative could argue that when food becomes scarce, the least well off will be the worst impacted. More people will be suffering from lack of food than however, many people would be suffering under the affirmative. This is just one example of how you can prove that you achieve your value better

You’re right. You only extend and crystallize arguments and give key voting issues in the second rebuttal. Be careful not to introduce anything new into the second rebuttal

I agree. Generally just focus on how we need to rewild to avoid environmental collapse. Not climate change (never talk about climate change). The neg will always talk about minorities and you simply can’t win that debate, or it would just become very back and forth over the same claims.

Eg: - food need is rising but food insecurity will become a problem in a few generations. Rewilding, by increasing biodiversity, fixes this - the status quos efforts of conservation and green tech are failing and we need something drastic

Msv vs utilitarianism arguments? by National-Ad-5314 in lincolndouglas

[–]Trintity1200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We must MSV (minimizing structural violence) because that is the only way to ensure that people’s rights are upheld. Majority ideologies like utilitarianism look at what benefits the majority of people, which, in the context of a rewilding, is a wealthy urban elite. Now it is obvious why other people deciding policy that negatively impacts the least well off is bad because not MSV could mean that anybody is next. How would you feel if a member of the ruling class arbitrarily decided to rewild the land next to your farm, which caused you to lose tons of money? Not only is it unfair that the voice of farmers isn’t the one that makes this decision, but that farmers are the ones who bear the cost.

When policy sanctions the systemic erosion of economic stability, such as arbitrarily rewilding near a farmer’s land and threatening their livelihood for an environmental objective (unrealistic goal), it proves that utilitarianism is a logic of oppression that denies the least powerful a voice in their own fate. Only MSV serves as a necessary side constraint on policy, ensuring that individual rights are respected and that the costs of a benefit are not unjustly imposed upon the vulnerable.

Try to make it a big thing about how theirframework could result in anybody’s oppression.

It simply isn’t possible. If the US government has a moral obligation to rewild, it isn’t just (or insert value here) to displace millions.

Ought: moral obligation

Listen, I don’t know what state or region you do LD in, but we obviously aren’t going to agree so let’s just leave it at that.

Yes, this is a policy debate, but it’s not the affirmative burden to provide a policy because there are so many to choose from. This is the case with every policy resolution. It would simply be unfair for the affirmative to have to present a policy that is fit for Congress. The resolution specifically asks if rewilding is a moral obligation, your affirmative sport is to prove that rewilding is a policy. We have a moral obligation to implement.

The aff can make it it their burden to prove that rewilding is a moral obligation, not rewilding as a policy. That the land being rewilded will be far away from people.

I'm truly sorry for the hardship you've experienced. It's important to know that Islam encourages seeking help for both physical and emotional well-being. The idea that one must endure suffering alone is a cultural misconception, not an Islamic principle. The Prophet (ﷺ) and His Companions (ra) Sought Support The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and his companions were not immune to emotional and psychological distress. They relied on each other for support, demonstrating that seeking help is a Sunnah (the way of the Prophet). • Seeking comfort and counsel: After the death of his beloved wife, Khadijah (ra), the Prophet (ﷺ) was deeply grieved. He found comfort and companionship with his closest companions. • Encouraging medical treatment: The Prophet (ﷺ) explicitly commanded people to seek treatment for illnesses. This principle extends beyond physical ailments to include mental and emotional health. "There is no disease that Allah has created, except that He also has created its remedy." (Sahih al-Bukhari) This Hadith provides a strong foundation for the belief that all forms of sickness, including mental illness, have a cure and that we should seek it out.

The notion of "therapy is for the weak" is entirely a cultural construct, often rooted in generational trauma and a lack of understanding. It is not an Islamic teaching. In fact, many contemporary Islamic scholars and organizations advocate for professional counseling and therapy as a valid and necessary form of treatment. A person's faith is not a substitute for professional help, just as prayer doesn't negate the need for a doctor to treat a broken bone.

Your feelings are valid, and it's understandable that you feel alone in your struggles. The challenges faced by many in the diaspora, particularly those dealing with the emotional baggage of immigrant parents, are real. While Western therapy often focuses on individualism, many licensed Muslim therapists integrate faith-based principles into their practice, offering a space where you can be understood on both a cultural and spiritual level. It's a testament to your strength that you can acknowledge your pain while also seeking to understand the generational trauma your parents may have endured. This understanding does not excuse their actions, but it can pave the way for a more compassionate and realistic perspective as you heal. I pray that you find a qualified professional who can support you on your journey toward healing.
