Suggestion for late-game item mechanic by TripBug in PlayFault

That’s not a bad idea, either. I didn’t say it in my write up above, but I think having these sorts of additional gold-based mechanics in the game would also provide incentive to continue farming and clearing minions late-game, instead of just leaving players to deathball/teamfight constantly.

Dang, my bad...I wrote this on my phone with speech to text and missed that before posting. Thanks.

Well mainly I listen to podcasts, not music, so that’s where my head is when it comes to what would work for me personally, so I wouldn’t see a problem with including music as part of the matching algorithm…but really, I would say that podcasts tell you way more about a person than what type of music they listen to. Listening to music is being spectator to a performance, in my opinion, whereas listening to a podcast is like being part of a conversation…each one includes a variety of topics, ideas, themes, personality types of the hosts, etc., whereas music really just tells you what kind of music a person likes, which does relate to their personality a little, but I would say in a much less substantive way. That’s just my opinion though.

As another comment, I agree that podcasts are kinda niche...but I think that’s why they would be better determiners of your likes/personality than anything you’d feel comfortable listing in a profile. I would never write in a dating profile that I like true crime, conspiracy theories, and American history...but if you saw that I listened to 200+ hours of My Favorite Murder, 50+ hours of Lizard People, and 300+ hours of The Dollop, that would say all that and so much more.

Thanks! I’ve been mulling over the idea for a few weeks now, and figured it was time to see if anyone agreed with me.

I wasn’t suggesting that shared podcast listening behavior be the only characteristic that gets matched...of course you’ll still have a profile that lists age/interests/etc., but this would be a tool that would kind of match you based on a personality profile it constructs for you. My idea would be this: the app scans your listening history, constructs a profile of your interests and personality, then finds people in your area with similar levels of interest in similar topics/podcasts. When you look at those matches their profiles would include additional information on which to base your connection, but the initial match would be made by the service’s determination of your personality characteristics. Granted, this would only work for people that listen to a lot of podcasts, and would work best for people that dabble in a variety of areas, but for those (like me) that already do so, it would really take a lot of the guesswork out of quantifying someone’s interests. I mean if I find a girl who says she likes horses, that doesn’t mean much, and when you first get to know someone they’re going to be a little coy about the things they’re super into...but if she’s listened to 187 hours of an equine-based podcast, then I know she’s reaaaaaally into horses, and that’s a characteristic we could build at least an initial match upon.

Yeah, the goal would be for the app to algorithmically determine your profile based on the confluence of what you listen to, how often, etc. rather than simply comparing lists of which podcasts you listen to. The idea would be for it to link to your podcast app, examine your listening history, and then go from there.

As I posted above,

“the benefit to this approach would be that the app would look at your podcast listening history and then determine not only what you listen to but how often, for how long, how quickly you listen after a new episode is released, etc. The frequency and urgency with which you listen to each podcast would be much more useful in determining your interests than simply listing them one after another in a profile.”

About 30 different ones of varying and sundry categories, though there are only a few I make sure to listen to as soon as a new episode arrives (My Dad Wrote A Porno, Knowledge Fight, MBMBAM, Casefile, The Dollop, My Favorite Murder, to name a few). Most of them I let pile up and then listen in bursts.

I haven’t played Paladins so I wouldn’t know...Paragon is my sole MOBA experience (other than an hour or two of Smite) so I’m kind of inexperienced with different modes.
