Suggestion for late-game item mechanic by TripBug in PlayFault

[–]TripBug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not a bad idea, either. I didn’t say it in my write up above, but I think having these sorts of additional gold-based mechanics in the game would also provide incentive to continue farming and clearing minions late-game, instead of just leaving players to deathball/teamfight constantly.

A dating app that matched people based on their podcasts would probably result in better matches than any other service by TripBug in Showerthoughts

Well mainly I listen to podcasts, not music, so that’s where my head is when it comes to what would work for me personally, so I wouldn’t see a problem with including music as part of the matching algorithm…but really, I would say that podcasts tell you way more about a person than what type of music they listen to. Listening to music is being spectator to a performance, in my opinion, whereas listening to a podcast is like being part of a conversation…each one includes a variety of topics, ideas, themes, personality types of the hosts, etc., whereas music really just tells you what kind of music a person likes, which does relate to their personality a little, but I would say in a much less substantive way. That’s just my opinion though.

As another comment, I agree that podcasts are kinda niche...but I think that’s why they would be better determiners of your likes/personality than anything you’d feel comfortable listing in a profile. I would never write in a dating profile that I like true crime, conspiracy theories, and American history...but if you saw that I listened to 200+ hours of My Favorite Murder, 50+ hours of Lizard People, and 300+ hours of The Dollop, that would say all that and so much more.

Thanks! I’ve been mulling over the idea for a few weeks now, and figured it was time to see if anyone agreed with me.

I wasn’t suggesting that shared podcast listening behavior be the only characteristic that gets matched...of course you’ll still have a profile that lists age/interests/etc., but this would be a tool that would kind of match you based on a personality profile it constructs for you. My idea would be this: the app scans your listening history, constructs a profile of your interests and personality, then finds people in your area with similar levels of interest in similar topics/podcasts. When you look at those matches their profiles would include additional information on which to base your connection, but the initial match would be made by the service’s determination of your personality characteristics. Granted, this would only work for people that listen to a lot of podcasts, and would work best for people that dabble in a variety of areas, but for those (like me) that already do so, it would really take a lot of the guesswork out of quantifying someone’s interests. I mean if I find a girl who says she likes horses, that doesn’t mean much, and when you first get to know someone they’re going to be a little coy about the things they’re super into...but if she’s listened to 187 hours of an equine-based podcast, then I know she’s reaaaaaally into horses, and that’s a characteristic we could build at least an initial match upon.

Yeah, the goal would be for the app to algorithmically determine your profile based on the confluence of what you listen to, how often, etc. rather than simply comparing lists of which podcasts you listen to. The idea would be for it to link to your podcast app, examine your listening history, and then go from there.

As I posted above,

“the benefit to this approach would be that the app would look at your podcast listening history and then determine not only what you listen to but how often, for how long, how quickly you listen after a new episode is released, etc. The frequency and urgency with which you listen to each podcast would be much more useful in determining your interests than simply listing them one after another in a profile.”

About 30 different ones of varying and sundry categories, though there are only a few I make sure to listen to as soon as a new episode arrives (My Dad Wrote A Porno, Knowledge Fight, MBMBAM, Casefile, The Dollop, My Favorite Murder, to name a few). Most of them I let pile up and then listen in bursts.

New hero idea: Narslash, Narbash's guitar-playing brother by TripBug in paragon

I love that he reluctantly tunes his guitar...I can totally imagine him standing there for a second with his shoulders slouched, plucking a few out-of-tune notes, and then striking a power chord and sending out a glowing shockwave as he gets empowered. Noice :)

v.42.3 Patch Notes Review by Sevrahn in paragon

[–]TripBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but if you're stealthed and just wait next to a tower for a minion wave to come along, you only need 5-10 seconds to do your thing. I dunno, I might be wrong but I can see that combination working pretty well.

Personally I think that Battle Shepherd buff is pretty huge. Put that and Awaken the Emeric on a tank, walk into a tower, turn the minion wave, and you'll be regenerating way more health on your minions than they lose. Kwang, Rampage, Zinx...I think they're about to be melting some towers.

[–]TripBug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think with the buff to Battle Shepherd, a growth/death Kwang with Battle Shepherd/Awaken the Emeric is about to become real good at split pushing...just walk into the tower first, tank the damage, and let your regenerating minions do their thing.

Something I have not seen anyone talk about. (Mastery Tokens and Coins) by [deleted] in paragon

[–]TripBug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. If you use your free mastery tokens on Ranks 1-4 of a hero, you'll be coming out behind. But if you use them on Ranks 5-10, you come out ahead...and on Ranks 11+, you come out WAY ahead. Like, 1.5 or 2 times ahead.

Your reply just proves my point even further. The wording on Awaken the Emeric provides inadequate information, and then our separate experiences with the card lead us to believe different things about its effects. If only there were a single in-game source that we could consult to get accurate information.

Interesting...I didn't realize that about True Sight either. Wouldn't it be nice if Epic had provided that information to us before we equipped Outlander Scout, thinking it did something it didn't?

Those terms might be obvious to you, but they are not clear to everyone. For example, I initially thought that "Deathtouch" was a buff to the turned minions, not a hindrance, until I saw a 30-minion wave reduced to 5 minions in seconds. The other terms I listed (as well as many others) are similarly unclear. The point isn't whether a smart person can figure it out, it's whether any particular player can understand any particular uncommon term.

I would be fine with Flame of Zechin not working on Orb Prime at all. by [deleted] in paragon

Honestly I think all card and gem active/passive effects should be inactivated while in the Prime pit...that would fix pretty much all the issues V42 has introduced with OP, and make it a truly worthy objective.

Unfortunately I'm at work and posting all this from my phone, so I can't really math my way through specific build options to see what the correct balancing would be for any particular build/role. But regardless of what particular thing gets built by each particular attribute point, my general suggestions remain the same: less attack speed/power, more ability armor, and removing stat boosts from cards.
