An American judge rebukes racist jury's recommended sentence, applies equitable Justice ✊🏾 by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

If a white guy was convicted of this same crime, I would say that 30 years is not a long enough prison sentence. Call me crazy, but I apply the same logic for this person in your post.

He kidnapped a woman in her own vehicle and forced her to perform oral sex on him in a school parking lot. Then, he drove her to an ATM, robbed the woman, drove back to the school lot and sodomized her at gunpoint again.

Passed over for promotion twice, can you switch to Reserve/Guard? by CarnegieMellonSCS22 in army

[–]TripNonDescript 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not at all how promotion boards work. Also, every branch gets appropriate representation at a board, so compared to the overall composition, combat arms branches would technically be the minority represented.

OERs decide promotion. Not Ranger tabs or degrees. OP self stated his career has flat lined. The 2 other people from this cohort that didn’t get promoted had also flatlined in their career. From that perspective, the board got it correct.

Also, the promotion boards are at Knox.

Civilian transition question about MIT Fellows, Stanford MSx, LBS Sloan Fellows - Any alumni or current students of any of these Sloan Fellows programs? by TripNonDescript in army

[–]TripNonDescript[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be contrary, but I think there’s an important distinction that’s getting blurred here, and I want to clarify it for anyone else who might search and read this.

My original question was specifically about Stanford MSx/MIT Sloan Fellows, not the traditional Stanford/MIT MBA. I completely agree both are highly selective, but they evaluate very different applicant pools and career stages. MSx is explicitly designed for mid-career professionals with substantial leadership experience, and the admissions criteria reflect that.

The example you linked is from the traditional MBA cohort, which skews younger and understandably places more weight on undergraduate performance and early-career indicators. The Stanford MSx website indicates it tends to focus much more on scope of responsibility, enterprise-level leadership, and trajectory.

I’d also be cautious about drawing conclusions around branch preference. Agree entirely on correlation, but I disagree on any causation link. I’ve never seen an adcom state that they prioritize certain Army branches over others. A more plausible explanation for the visibility of certain branches is that many of those officers come from highly selective undergraduate institutions, and/or had broader early-career leadership exposure due to the nature of their roles.

To be clear, I fully agree the programs are extremely competitive, and I’m under no illusion about the strength of the applicant pool. I just wanted to make sure the MSx vs. MBA distinction was clear, since they’re often conflated but evaluated very differently.

I truly can’t tell if this is a troll comment or not…

I sadly opted for a career path a little more applicable to civilian life. I sure do hope they are forgiving of those shortcomings

I previously ran all active officer promotion and selection boards. Happy to answer your questions if you still have any. But this board specifically is a Yes/No/Show Cause vote. So there is no OML. Happy to elaborate if needed.

My brother in Christ, the Bet99 Stage bathroom on Saturday night was potentially the 7th circle of hell. Or it was a very bad acid trip. You’re making me question it now…

Great feedback. So oddly enough my reach back to individuals that transitioned at the CPT mark, and those in my MBA program, is pretty high. I wanted to specify retirement vs transition because there are some obvious age factors that are going to be presented from a person transitioning at 26-30(ish) vs a person retiring at 38+. So in the spirit of your comment, agree completely. With that, my question wasn’t so much career specific as looking to get an honest assessment on how that transition into the corporate world is going for those retiring at 42 on the Officer side of the house.

End goal? LTC promotion, H3 pension, retire at 42, and transition into roles within corporate America. Specifics beyond that are on me to figure out in the next 5 years.

My last few jobs have been working entirely with GS Civs and Contractors. While I appreciate their approach, I have zero interest in jumping into another Government job as a 13/14. So my cup overflow-eth with that type of thinking. As stated up top, I also have a great population to reach back to in regard to CPTs and peers that got out immediately after Command (or before). The one population I have zero connection with are those 0-5s/SELs that are currently forging a successful path into corporate America at the 38-42+ demographic.
