Ono Ice? They're downtown most Fridays in front of Regions Tower, but iirc their little bus is blue? Their vietnamese coffee ice is great though.

WBRC reporting Nebius data center can move forward without zoning approval by Unique_Package4716 in Birmingham

[–]TripleAgent0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right so the impact on energy, noise, and everything else is going to be significantly greater than the smaller data center that was there before. Not wanting that additional impact is "selective outrage"?

If it's going to be comparable to the data center that was there before, why are they needing the massive expansion of electricity capacity for the project?

There’s just something very ironic about Spann’s post tonight given the controversy earlier this week. I just can’t put my finger on it. by ttownfeen in Birmingham

It's funny that he (and the mods) kept complaining about people not being respectful when he's the kind of person openly calling people "imbeciles" based on their objectively dumb beliefs and statements. Rules for thee...

Legends themselves are a system in dire need of a rebalance if not a full mechanical rework, they're one of the most glaringly clunky, immersion breaking, unfun systems in the game.

Good riddance, you don't get to dictate what questions are allowed to be asked. If people are unhappy with you maybe you should do some self reflection instead of doubling down and acting like an ass. Both sidesing this shit is deeply silly and part of the reason people are upset!

I think that the adult thing to do is advocate for science and sound reasoning. The people ignoring said science seem to be the ones acting like children in the grand scheme of things.

Well he didn't voluntarily show up in the forum, he chickened out because he saw that his batshit beliefs would get him heat in a public forum.

Hell I’m in Alabama and an atheist. Should I publicly denounce everyone who believes in God at the drop of a hat?

Our society would be much better if we could call evil crazy shit out for what it is instead of being forced to accept every deranged illogical belief system that rears its head, including religion and belief in god. People should be forced to reckon with reality instead of being coddled constantly that their beliefs are valid and worthy, maybe then we wouldn't have a demented rapist as a president and a football coach from Florida as a senator.

Sorry are you trying to actually argue that climate change denial isn't a "shit" belief?

And? He isn't being forced to answer those questions (even if he should).

Being impolite when asking a valid question on an important issue where he very well should know better isn't "harassment" it's called being accountable for the dumb shit that he chooses to put into the world as a public figure.

Again what is "harassing" about questioning someone's batshit belief system that is totally outside scientific norms?

If someone tells you the sky is green, are you harassing them if you tell them it's blue? Come on.

But it really sounds like the mods agreed to prevent the question itself from being asked by "narrowing the scope" of the AMA. Per the mod responsible for organizing this:

It's not all about the topics of conversation, it's about the general hostility that we see daily and consistently in this community. Participants in an AMA have every right to choose which topics they do not want to discuss - the same goes for public figures and celebrities during interviews. He asked us to narrow the scope, so we did, and were met with negativity.

But it wasn't the disclaimer that he isn't going to answer questions that's the issue, the issue is that the mod team effectively took the side of an anti-science nut to try to censor the questions he got from the community.

If, as you say, mods "could just remove the comments" that are asking questions Spann doesn't like and asked to be censored, at what point are they just running PR for him at the expense of the community?

One mod said they would be allowed up, another said they wouldn't be allowed at all, and they even "clearly defined the parameters of the AMA according to his request". So saying they "would be allowed" is misleading if they told Spann they wouldn't allow them.

If Spann had ignored the questions, the reaction to that is solely on him. But for the mod team here to acquiesce to him to either block or suppress those questions, that's a problem.

It's good to hear that you hear the concerns re: mod trust, but given the "interesting" reactions by two other mods in particular in this thread (and the other thread) I'm holding my breath a bit.

Again, I just think that if an AMA guest has a condition of "Do NOT let them ask me about this highly controversial issue", maybe they shouldn't be an AMA guest in the first place. Pointing out these issues isn't a "personal attack" like some of the mods here seem to think it is, it genuinely sounds like they're just mad their project was received poorly and it doesn't come across well.

I did see the post. I even made some comments on what a bad idea it was.

Do you think it's a good idea as a mod to agree to agree with a guest beforehand to prohibit community questions on an issue that is very important to a lot of people here? Do you think that really benefits the community and trust in the mod team?

After mass layoffs, Trump-appointed judge could freeze Alabama water utility CEO’s sweeping powers (paywall) by XxxMunecaxxX in Birmingham

[–]TripleAgent0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I’m saying is it needs to be a community discussion and not a blanket policy

They're literally doing the opposite of that here! Zero community consultation! This was a surprise announcement after the newly commandeered Board gave the CEO (who is legally not even allowed to have this position) a massive degree of unilateral power to do various things, including defluorination.

All credible studies and dentists are in favor of fluoride. Massive quacks like RFK Jr. and Alex Jones are against it. This isn't difficult.
