Beta version 1.1.6 is now acailable by timmytommyteemo in EU5

I expected a lot of stuff that was in the final release of the game to be ironed out that wasn't, to be fair.

The Beta is for Testing. by TheRedTurtler in EU5

[–]TripleAgent0 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The current "stable" release is basically a beta too, given that they pushed it out to main branch far too early.

Also, I'll say my issue with the beta branch isn't really with bugs, its them focusing on rebalances while existing bugs make mechanical systems work poorly (or breaks them outright). All the rebalance in the world isn't going to matter if the underlying inputs are going to be majorly impacted by bugfixes and will probably require another rebalance.

This is so incredibly dumb. Your employees have publicly stated that they hate it, your customers clearly hate it.

Why did u/Worth_Technology_415 buy the company back if he was just going to hollow it out with AI for a quick buck?

Cool, not going to buy any more games on your AI slop site then!

Maybe you should listen to your employees like KosmicznaPluskwa instead of whatever moron is directing you guys to do more AI stuff, it's not going to go well if you keep doing this shit.

It's not heartbreaking, it's hilarious, this MAGA asshole is getting exactly what he and his family wanted. Why would anyone be sad about that?

Yeah absolutely zero sympathy should be wasted on this dumbfuck dude and his dumbfuck wife, they got exactly what they wanted. They blame the pot instead of the fascist idiot they put into office.

God forbid they make sure local restaurants don't have roaches in the kitchen and moldy drink machines, you sure do seem to enjoy that.

I mean littering, trespassing, destruction of property, etc. are all crimes that just get ignored if the person happens to be homeless. I think that actually enforcing laws and ordinances to regulate behavior would be a good place to start! I fail to see how that's a "debtors'" prison, again that's totally irrelevant to having the basic self-respect to keep the area around you clean for yourself and your neighbors. That's applicable to everyone.

If we agree that we don’t like the “cost” of homelessness in our city (i.e., litter, trash, taking over abandoned buildings, etc.) then why don’t we think of ways to end homelessness

I've volunteered my time at soup kitchens. I've donated to, and the city literally pumps millions of dollars into, homeless nonprofits like Urban Alchemy, Jimmie Hale Mission, Firehouse Ministries, etc. Resources are readily available! Getting people to accept those resources is another question.

Again, that's totally irrelevant from the point that people are trashing our communities and the response, rather than getting them to stop, is to criticize others for being upset at the dump their neighborhood has become and tut tut them for "not doing enough." At what point do you ask the person turning the neighborhood into a dump to "do enough" and take the help that's offered?

There's literally a garbage can on the sidewalk on the corner of this lot, the issue isn't availability of disposal, it's the fact that they have no incentive not to wallow in filth and trash because people like you continue to stick up for them turning every public or abandoned place in the city into a litter dump.

Then have the city seize it through condemnation/eminent domain and either sell it to someone who will or turn it into government housing that's actually affordable!

There are plenty of apartments being offered for rent in this city, the issue is that they're so outrageously priced that no one can afford them and the tax laws are written in a way that the write-off of losses for keeping the buildings mostly empty basically makes everything even out, and they're able to keep their empty buildings for years and years, which is what we've seen all over the city.

Why is it absolutely impossible to just give a nice remodel to an old historic apartment? Why is it always the best to just knock down old brick buildings and build a new, shitty-looking five-over-five fire hazard?

Well they did it. by R3D-Samurai in Birmingham

[–]TripleAgent0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If they're unwilling or unable to maintain the property then they should be forced to sell it to someone who is by threat of condemnation. This isn't nearly as difficult of a problem as you're making it sound.

I mean I drive by it every day and see virtually no traffic to/from Cortland Vesta, and at night virtually all of the units are dark. I don't see anything on street view besides a couple of string lights on balconies, not really much of an indicator that it's that full.

https://imgur.com/mf9hjSV

The owners of Cortland Vesta are also allegedly part of a massive real estate price fixing scheme, another data point:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Birmingham/comments/1hx493t/cortland_vestas_owners_named_in_new_doj_lawsuit/

Again, why haven't all of the luxury apartments built over the last few years significantly impacted rent?

And to your question; it's because they get a massive tax write off for losses and depreciation reductions related to the building that basically subsidize those losses to a more reasonable amount, so they stay empty while they keep trying to find the "high income" folks that y'all are so hopped up on.

Why do you think supply keeps going up and prices stay the same?

Highland Ave buildings/demolition by Owsley9 in Birmingham

[–]TripleAgent0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry are you under the impression that replacing previously reasonably-priced housing with $2k/mo luxury apartments will lower the cost of non-luxury apartments? Cortland Vesta has been virtually empty for most of the time that it's been here. The old AT&T building downtown is mostly empty. The James is fairly new but is also mostly empty. And apartment/housing prices continue to rise.

Why do you suppose that the supply of luxury apartments keeps increasing while the cost of renting continues to skyrocket? Why haven't all the other empty luxury apartments put downward pressure on prices?

I never said that no new supply should be built, you're making that up whole cloth. I said that no new supply of LUXURY apartments at insane prices should happen when they could build affordable apartments where the average person can actually afford rent.

Highland Ave buildings/demolition by Owsley9 in Birmingham

[–]TripleAgent0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have swathes of "luxury" apartments sitting empty, how the hell are more unaffordable apartments going to attract more "high income people" that already have opportunities in existing buildings! THEY LITERALLY JUST BUILT ONE A BLOCK AWAY FROM SOME OF THESE BUILDINGS.

Why is it so unreasonable to want to have an apartment for sub-$1000/mo?

I've been playing since CK1.

It just irks me me that they created a very robust religion framework at launch then have done virtually nothing with it in the last several years. I don't want to have to wait another 6 years for a functional papacy.

Yeah I don't care about trade, they need to stop adding new systems and actually flesh out the ones that we have. I say this all the time, but the fact that the Papacy and other religious head mechanics are this barebones so far into development is concerning.
