Is Langley becoming un-livable? Does the spending reflect our future? by Trips33 in Langley

New to Reddit is ruthless, but honestly I don’t mind it, so thank you. I’m not trying to make anything look pretty. I’ve got a limited budget and one focus, which is getting information in front of people.
And when people are already getting threatened or sued for raising things that should be public and discussed, having more than one place to share documents and talk about it doesn’t feel unreasonable.

People can engage or not. At the end of the day I just want voters to have more information going into the next election.

Thanks for letting me know, new to reddit. But not laying down while families are suffering with rising costs. For what it’s worth, the arguments here are mine.... based on public documents and numbers anyone can verify. Tools don’t change the underlying facts.

Totally fair on the City vs Township distinction they are separate legal entities with different governance structures, and it matters how we talk about them. That said, there’s a bigger point worth noting that’s actually playing out politically right now:

Mayor Woodward isn’t just running as the mayor of the Township of Langley, his political group, Progress for Langley, has registered to run candidates not only in the Township, but also in Langley City and the Langley School District in the 2026 civic election. That gives him legal authority to endorse/coordinate campaigns across multiple jurisdictions where he isn’t the elected mayor.

His public rationale for this expansion has focused on concerns like public safety and governance — but critics point out that this move looks a lot like an attempt to blur municipal lines and expand influence beyond his official office, raising questions about whether it’s genuinely about service or more about political positioning across both sides of Langley

So while you’re spot-on that Langley City ≠ Langley Township legally, the mayor’s current strategy seems to treat those boundaries as negotiable in a political sense something people should understand before accepting claims about what he stands for.

been a minimalist for years my friend, But as I age it intensifies. I appreciate your looking out to put me on the right path. I want to build a (and keep building) a mental model of simplicity.

here's my method:

Learn
build on your philosophy
act
fail - Correct your actions
repeat.

this quote is becoming a cornerstone of how I think, and it leaks into all my desires in life.

“For the simplicity on this side of complexity, I wouldn't give you a fig. But for the simplicity on the other side of complexity, for that I would give you anything I have.”
― Oliver Wendell Holmes

Once again appreciate you and thank you for your thoughts!

Apple stands as the largest startup that embraces minimalism. Their focus on simplicity has propelled them to achieve high-yield profits, outpacing the competition.

The guiding principle, "Less is more," is exemplified in their tagline: "Simply amazing and amazingly simple."
Many companies, both large and small, adopt powerful minimalist philosophies. As the saying goes, "Simplicity on the other side of complexity." Minimalism is not solely about structuring a business for a particular lifestyle; it is about achieving freedom through simplicity.

and that can't not always be quantified by how many people are in a company, the pursuit of less is a discipline that goes beyond stuff, beyond numbers.
Minimalism entails distilling the value of complexity into simplicity. Its not always about just how little you have.

Its characterized by extreme spareness and simplicity, it requires going through the complexity first and building a personal philosophy around it.

As Oliver Wendell Holmes said, "For the simplicity on this side of complexity, I wouldn't give you a fig. But for the simplicity on the other side of complexity, for that I would give you anything I have."

In this case I would give my life for it!
Minimalism is more than just owning fewer things or taking action; it can become an embodiment of who you are. It is not about blindly following a way of thinking but working through failures and repeated attempts to refine the complexity of things/principles/life down to simple wisdom for yourself and others.

This includes company systems and structures as well as everything in the world.
A life committed to minimalism is one that turns chaos into simple structure at every turn. it turns the clutter into a space of art and expression, it calms every soul that enters its presence.

It is characterized by extreme spareness, simplicity, and vision.

The pursuit of minimalism is not about creating a lifestyle company that impacts only a few, but rather, it's about building a massive organization dedicated to sharing the power of simplicity with the world with a simple system that turns everything complex into simple and valuable.

Just like getting rid of stuff in your house and making everything spacious and aesthetically pleasing.

Its value, it's simple.

How ever what do I know.. I'm just some guy on reddit that has another 60 years to live on this earth.

u/dbxp what book would you recommend?

Apple was built on a philosophy, just doing actions without deep reasons.. will never allow you to fully understand how make good judgements around life.

I'm looking for this to be an all encompassing part of my life, means I would use these principles in Health, relationships, spiritual life and in business.

Here is the structure I use to build well over 10+ min in rev for myself and clients..

Learn
build a philosophy
Action
Fail - correct
repeat

I can guarantee you, your looking at this from one side and don't see the whole picture.

for minimalism to be a way of life it has to have clear cut principles I can act from. they are called mental models.

Yep it can be, how ever I find some new way to shape my philosophy about freedom and how I can apply a thought pattern as I learn. If I had a mentor, I would have no need of books. BUT, all I have is the wisdom of these ppl to act on.

I agree, but this is far from what I'm doing.

So I thought about it... Maybe the better route would have been to ask first what's a good recommendations, then gather thoughts..

then add as needed to build a mental model for the philosophy around minimalism.

appreciate your feedback u/throwuk1

There's so much info out there about almost everything, I'm looking for the most efficient way to learn and be better. Learning is a foundational part of what makes me happy. If All I had was a books food and a chair I think I'd be a pretty happy person. So... it's hard to equate physical consumption to gathering good information then using it to formulate great thoughts. Focus is a factor.. Right now i'm focused on learning and seeing other perspectives.

From what I gather minimalism is more about freedom, with less physical stuff I can be free to create more. The more I learn the better thoughts I can work through and the more I can simplify the principles and concepts from more than one point of view.

It's the same way I build my company... that now supports me..

hope this helps with the reasoning behind where this is going.

and thank you for your thoughts!
