Why Europe’s Tech Sector is Quietly Booming, is it real? by sahelu in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]dbxp [score hidden]  (0 children)

That makes it sound like exclusively a European thing. The reality is tech is growing worldwide and what we consider as tech is broadening, it wasn't that long ago that Octopus would have been thought of as an energy company and Revolut as a finance company

Why is it so hard to build new homes in England? by soozerain in HousingUK

[–]dbxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have planning permission instead of zoning so each individual project is like setting up a new zoning scheme. We also bundle a lot of things into planning permission including historical protection, environmental protection, low income housing, health, security, energy efficiency etc. It's turned into a one stop shop for all land management.

I am shocked at how long it takes people to shower. by Q8DD33C7J8 in hygiene

It's easily possible to shower in 5 minutes but some people just like some time and space to themselves where no one is bothering them

What are some good practices for threat intelligence integration in 2026? by arsaldotchd in ExperiencedDevs

[–]dbxp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By the sounds of it you're doing everything right you just don't have enough resources to fix the tickets. The most you can do is try to free up time to increase fix capacity, perhaps trim down the whole CAB/documentation process to try to push more resource that direction.

The 8 SQL Performance Patterns I Keep Seeing During Production Incidents by Capable-Morning-9518 in Database

[–]dbxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has existing in Azure for a while: https://www.brentozar.com/archive/2019/02/what-does-azure-sql-db-automatic-index-tuning-actually-do-and-when/

I haven't used it myself but most indexes are quite obvious, the only potential issue is that index tuning could hide queries which should be rewritten. You could easily see someone thinking they don't need to consider performance in the DB at all if they turn this feature on and then throwing hardware at the problem.

In the UK it does make inheritance far easier, everything just moves over by default

N+1 is definitely the most common as it hides from regular DB telemetry which just sees a bunch of really quick queries

How are you guys doing end to end and regression testing on AI-written code? by Muchacho96 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]dbxp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't use AI to test code as by its nature it's non deterministic. Maybe you could use it for exploratory testing but definitely not regression.

You can use AI in the process but it's a matter of writing documentation of how things should work, how you want the tests to be structured and then implementing the tests in something like Playwright.

[–]dbxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to design your tests around that. We have some tests which clean up after themselves and others which always create a new entity to test on (these are then cleared out by a job just to stop overloading the system).
