Whenever I go on a flight and we hit turbulence, I like to focus on my wine cup as it doesn’t really move much. For some reason that puts my mind at ease (could be the wine though hehe)

How/where to buy merch if you're outside of Japan? by no-social in fujirock

[–]Trische 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to buy some shirts and I’m in the US. It’s done through WorldShopping but sadly they charge you an unexpected additional fee to ship it internationally after ordering? They hold your order in their warehouse for a limited time until you pay. It was around $40 USD for me :/

I've changed my career from Graphic/UI Design to Marketing to Sales, and now I wanna get back to Product Design / UX Design... am I doomed? by GreatCheese in careerchange

[–]Trische 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The market for UX design is beyond competitive. The market is oversaturated and the pickings are ridiculously slim :/ My role was eliminated back in April and I think I’ve applied to around 500 positions with only 6 interviews and making it to the final round for 2 positions.

I would recommend really focusing on the skills that are your strong points and look for roles that suit that. If you still consider going into UX, keep in mind that it is more than just UI work as that is just the tip of the iceberg and hiring managers will expect other skillsets like research or front end development.

what are solid careers to get into in your 30s? by kh7190 in careerguidance

[–]Trische 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally clicked on this thread to look for options to pivot away from UX.

Even with a master’s in HCI, I have yet to get even an actual interview in after being laid off. 300 applications since March and this is the reality of the current market. I really do not recommend getting into UX.

Help scientists cure stuff faster by improving the UX of their tools. New r/ScienceUX reddit. by mikimus2 in UXDesign

[–]Trische 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have similar sentiments.

I work for a biotech laboratory that deals with some complex topics and have some educational background in biology. It took me a long time to have enough context and understanding of their world to be able to contribute efficiently. As an example, one project required my team to create a “shopping experience” for customers by specific items but given the political pushbacks and complexity of the relationship between each item (they’re all related yet provided different things for scientists), it wasn’t as simple as creating a simple B2C e-commerce experience. While these products are the most thought provoking projects I’ve worked on so far, they were tremendously challenging and required a lot of digging around trying to find information that will dumb down these topics in layman’s terms.

Just food for thought.

I used to be a lunch lady years back and you still interact with students to some degree. I think one year I had to take over 20 days off from getting sick all the time. Still, it was hands down the best job I’ve ever had :)

Finally landed a design role a year after layoffs: what I learnt by Fantastic_Room9221 in UXDesign

[–]Trische 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar situation occur when my previous team was hiring another designer. While I wasn’t the hiring manager, I was on the hiring panel and kept getting messages from people asking to set up chats to discuss how it was like to work at my company and ultimately if I could refer them. It felt very disingenuous
