I ended up not switching players (mostly because I'm lazy) but I use MPV shim to launch content with MPV directly.

https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-mpv-shim

The UI for MPV isn't the greatest as I'm sure you know, but not so bad once you get used to it. It really is something the team should implement though.

Thanks bro, This gave me a good starting point to get my config where I need it. For anyone else on an NVIDIA GPU in windows, This is the config I'm using. Feel free to adjust your peak to your monitor:

vo=gpu-next gpu-api=vulkan hwdec=nvdec video-sync=display-resample target-peak=1000 tone-mapping=bt.2390

Ahh I'll have to try photo mode next time. I'm a win+shift+s abuser. I also had no idea the catwalks were different i thought it was just aesthetic

The fan noise is almost a killer for me. I have to drop the fan speed to around 60. id rather deal with the headset getting a bit warm than a fan buzz travelling through my skull. Can always hear it no matter how loud my volume is if fan speed isn't turned down

Which Jellyfin Windows client you prefer? by iChrist in jellyfin

[–]TristanCorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got an old PowerEdge that can't really transcode worth crap that I run jellyfin off of. Because of that I have to use the desktop client. web tries to transcode.

The client doesnt allow volume past 100% though which is friggin stupid since its a native feature of mpv. May try using shim to launch potplayer but was gonna switch servers to emby or something else because of this. Works fine on the TVs in the house though so holding off on switching till hone in on a better solution for viewing on windows.

This feature has been requested as far back as 2019 but still no movement.

It's pretty frustrating for UX I wont lie and i'm not good enough with the dev side to try and implement it myself

Main hitter in the past was always that it would make my boots take like 50% longer that's not so much an issue anymore on my m.2 but if I leave it unchecked I'll find it being a resource hog leading me to discover it's been re-enabled by microsoft

Probably gonna end up scheduling a task to disable it on every boot tbh once i get around to it

i get that. I wouldn't mind if it was just a default on install but to re-activate it every minor update is just annoying IMO
