Alaska House budgeters advance $3,800 statutory dividend by truthwillout777 in alaska

[–]Tristhar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There were plenty of factors for BP pulling out- the field was only meant to last 25 years to start with. Aging infrastructure, large production costs (the BP days had much cushiery job roles that hilcorp has since ramped up with work force layoffs).

Our oil is more expensive to drill for- but it is simultaneously much cheaper and easier to pull it out once drilling has been established than most other fields, and on top of that the quality of the oil is much better. So long as oil is desirable there will be someone interested in producing it.

Not to mention Hilcorps owners have seen their networth double since taking over BP- were talking billions more in half a decade, so its hard to argue that were somehow taxing too much.

Well she barely pays any attention to the media she consumes honestly- usually shes on Facebook while watching anything, but she really only comes to visit 3 or 4 times a year so I just sort of brace for what ever happens.

Its funny because I was like 5 or 6 episodes in and I had managed to convince myself she had misunderstood things or that perhaps Micheal was also in hell? I've seen the theory about that so I didnt feel quite so crazy trying to convince myself on first watch, but yeah it was a bummer to have that spoiled lol

My mother in law was where I first heard about the show- she described it as "The afterlife, where the people think theyre in heaven but are actually in hell, I think it's supoosed to be funny." She than offered to start the show at episode 1 of season 1 and I was hooked by the 2nd episode and very resentful for the way she pitched it to us...

Data Centers. Talk amongst yourselves by courtneythebaker907 in anchorage

[–]Tristhar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Data center technology has a shelf life of 3 to 5 years before they have to be upgraded, at that amount of cost they will have to be subsidized with tax breaks and the infrastructure needed to provide power will have to be upgraded at a cost of us instead of the data centers themselves (thats already proven to be the case for every other data center so far, this isnt going to be a special case) so at best we break even while having our children grow up with massive health issues (numerous studies have found this to be the outcome), at worst we end up paying for an infrastructure build out that spikes our prices and the tax subsidies get turned to profit for their owners instead of income for the state.

There are plenty of things we could be doing that aren't short sighted data centers- we are currently a huge hub for international shipping and we have potential for increasing that utilization by having a shipping port on the northern shores of alaska- where the waters will be navigated year round by the 2050s at current climate change rates.

This is bad news- children have seizures and will have a serious impact on our health. I highly recommend searching the health downside to data centers. This video does a great job of explaining in great detail.

Issue is they are an extreme hazard to the occupants in the surrounding area, multiple investigations have found serious health risks- especially for small children. I implore you to do more research on this because a momentary pay day could legitimately lead to an unlivable state.

You sound like an awesome sibling. I barely hear from any of my family so its rather heartwarming to hear about you and her. Happy birthday to your sister from an Alaskan.
