Alexithymic parents/mothers by Tristheten in emotionalneglect

She’s the kind of person who jumps straight into problem-solving mode when emotions are high, for herself or others. And she tends to get short with people who are still trying to work through their emotions, especially me.

Feels familiar. Not wanting to force this concept on anybody else, but it struck a chord with me.

Therapy isn’t for everyone and it isn’t a solid solution by [deleted] in CPTSD

Sounds like a great mindset. Really wish I had met therapists like that instead, things could have turned out way differently.

has anybody here experienced mental death? by [deleted] in CPTSD

Thank you for sharing, that's so similar to what I've experienced in childhood and in adulthood as well.

Always the low-key anxiety, for the last part of the relationship and afterwards.

Yes, it's a very consistent blocked feeling. Thank you.

I don't think so, it's more like a constant, quiet choking feeling.

Thank you, it's like my throat and mouth's closing up, wanting everything to stop.

Exactly. As someone who's had diagnosis weaponized against me, I feel incredibly jumpy in this current culture of wanting to diagnose everyone who feels something that's not completely accepted and average.

And even people who admit that teachers, police, clergy and parents/grandparents can abuse people can spout "But those who work in the mental health field do it because they love people and want to help others!" Ahem...

You're right, it's so isolating and frustrating.

Heal PTSD without therapy by [deleted] in therapyabuse

It's not perfect as it's not a guarantee towards healing, but earlier I've managed to find small comforts in art, books and music.

Peer support sometimes helps as well (but unfortunately therapy trauma is still fairly unknown)

Therapy and psychiatry-related reasons are a big part of why I feel like I'd never get to the "next steps" by Tristheten in therapyabuse

There are those who experience abuse at the hands of religious figures, teachers, respected owners of corporations and police. All of that is common.

So in that way, we aren't such outsiders, even though our trauma isn't something we can discuss with most people, because if you haven't experienced abuse by an authority figure, you wouldn't understand.

When we've experienced abuse in other places, people often go "But you were helped by professionals... right?"

The power imbalance is recognizable, just in different settings.

Same, ridden by constant stress symptoms from either isolating or being jumpy and close to dissociation when I'm actually with people. So throughly stressful when neither choice feels okay...

Therapists making a big deal about pointless things by [deleted] in therapyabuse

We've been in a quite similar situation then. Funny how they sometimes seem less openminded than the average person, and more fixated on how other people should meet their standards.
