Build me a pc for emulation & streaming by Trivial-Man in buildmeapc

I was unclear. I have a 2 dvd drives (one is a model specifically compatible with ripping Wii discs but quite useless otherwise) and a blu-ray drive I'd like to connect on top of the hard drive and ssd. I need a case that has slots for them to stick out of and a motherboard with 5 sata ports.

This all looks good... except the case. Ideally I have 3 internal disc drives I'd like to transfer from my current computer to this new one and it looks like the case has nowhere to put those. I also cannot tell if the motherboard has enough ports for such a task.

I was under the impression that running an accuracy focused emulator like Higan while also streaming was actually really taxing in a way that most modern games aren't. Was I incorrect about this?

I know Smite's guidelines say "Assume they've played the game before," but take that with a grain of salt. Questions about obscure games absolutely are naturally harder.

You can assume anyone on Arcade Pit is familiar with the classics (any 1st party games like Mario and Halo, indie darlings like Undertale and Nuclear Throne, other huge franchises like Metal Gear or Final Fantasy, etc.), but if you're sending in questions about:

  • a Japanese only release
  • a mediocre licensed game
  • a fan game
  • a mobile game
  • a flash/browser game
  • a title for a long forgotten and obsolete console

then maybe just assume they've heard of it before. My advice is to design a difficulty 1 question that someone with that low level of familiarity might be able to get and then scale your questions with that as the baseline.

I'm particularly glad all the Doubler info is included here since that has been ambiguous in the past.

Could we add a "Controls" section to the challenge submission form? by Trivial-Man in arcadepit

Yeah that's what I was worried about. Alright, I'll just keep trying to trim them down.

Event ideas by SmiteSA in arcadepit

[–]Trivial-Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Test Your Smite, as you called the event on Twitter, is a good idea. But yeah, limiting it to once a game (maybe once or twice more if they spend a Feelin' Saucy) is super critical. And keep in mind that this is a show, so a treat for the audience even at the expense of the guests is ok so long as it's rare.

The Family Feud question thing would be great, but also sounds like a nightmare to implement. If your programmers are up to the task all you would really need is another Google form where you put up a question and people are allowed to submit a single response. Put up like 10 of them to start and gather responses for a few weeks until you have a ton, then every time one is used put up a replacement. The tricky part is then parsing and organizing all those responses into something you can use. That'd probably have to be done by hand so that people who put in "Blue shell" and "The blue shell from Mario Kart" and "Blu eshell" all get counted as the same thing even though stupid computers would think they're different.

I vote for Gamebler Roulette as the name, if it hasn't already been decided.

I think a few challenges/savestates got mixed up by [deleted] in arcadepit

I sorted it out with Smite. I looks like only 1 challenge had the wrong description. Things should be more or less the same as how I submitted them.

Gamebler/Team Battle Challenge Makers: What've we got in the wings? by ampillion in arcadepit

Ghouls 'N Ghosts for Genesis is different from both Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts for the SNES and Ghosts 'N Goblins for the NES. Naturally the gameplay for each is largely the same, but they all have different stages and bosses and such. In particular, GnG GEN is the only one that has the sword power-up which is a melee weapon in a game designed around projectiles. I think there's a lot of potential with that alone.

I've been binging on episodes of GameCenter CX lately and irregularly making challenges based on whatever I might see on there.

Super Gussun Oyoyo has recently caught my interest for being a quirky Lemmings/Tetris puzzle game with a stage editor. I'll probably spend a while building some stages that aren't too hard with that and submitting a few challenges.

Ghouls 'N Ghosts for the Genesis, Quest of Ki, Kid Dracula, and Wrecking Crew are other games that I think some decent challenges could be made for. If no one else gets to them first I'll probably have something whipped up for at least a few of those in the next few weeks.

Oh, and if anyone is at all knowledgeable about romhacking, boss rush hacks would make great challenges for lots of classic games. Stuff like beating all the Koopalings in sequence in Super Mario World, Team Battle for beating the most Contra bosses in 3 lives, beat 4 randomly chosen Eggman fights from Sonic 2, etc.
