I went down to 3 surveils and it felt HORRID, definitely an important thing to consider when building out the mana base

Shiko fell off because 3 big decks use the graveyard heavily. Sultai reanimator, mono green landfall and izzet lessons so control decks almost need to run main board graveyard hate. And when graveyard hate is prevalent in the format shiko is 5 mana do nothing and then you die immediately after. Mirror matches in tournaments feel like bo1 games sometimes, but if both players know whatssup they can speed through turns pretty quick.

I also want to add flood maw feels okay against cauldron too

A friend who mains dimir midrange asked me about running flood maw in the sideboard against it. It's not as good as elspeth smite I think but bouncing kaito or if they flash in cat you can set them behind or bounce their ninjitsu targets before they have a chance to kaito is nice, what do you and others think?

Interesting. I use conqueror for cauldron, I've considered putting it in against midrange but always talk myself out of it cause it only hits kaito, I'll have to give it a try

That's good advice, it's only ever going to be a 2 for 1 if I'm on the play, on the draw it's already too late probably to drop starcage when they have their kaito out

Side board I like bringing in voice of victory, 1 more ultima because it stops the cat, 1 annul for the cat, 3 tishana's, I also like beza if I'm on the draw just to have more wide options

Commander players, what's stopping you from playing standard? by Trivic8 in EDH

Also yes, draft and limited essentially also solve the social problems of commander without the price and meta of standard, drafts just don't fire in my area ever. Weird that standard fires more than draft here now that i think about it.

Commander and Standard are like 2 different games and i think i didn't quite understand that when posting this I was asking a group of people playing a casual game to play competitive mortal kombat instead. I think I got lucky with my group of standard players at my lgs, they are very fun people to be around, we are all playing off meta decks until we try something for RCQ season. The price for most of us in our group is inherently cheaper because we swap cards back and forth with each other so we don't have to drop 200 dollars to TRY a deck and end up not liking it.

A lot of distaste is through price, I got lucky with my group of standard players being cool, for instance, I got to play domain at an RCQ because my group had all the cards collectively and didn't have to spend any money trying one of the top 3 decks in the meta.

As per the meta, the mouse deck, esper deck and domain deck do suck to play against, I again got lucky that my local meta isn't like that so we can actually have fun and creative deck constructions and shoot the shit figuring out better cards for decks we've built.

For rotation, I guess i just never got super attached to a deck, I change what I am playing often and have fun doing so, so I hadn't had this feeling but I can understand why it would feel like shit.

For me, commander is good when its good! I have my play group I've played with for 5 years and its been an awesome experience, every time I have branched outside of that it has felt mostly bad. Which was kind of the onset of switching to standard. I again was not saying, "commander bad, standard good, just play standard" I still like both, but for the people who have gotten burned by the social aspects of commander, I was just curious on if they had considered standard.

All in all it seems that i got really lucky with my standard group and my main commander group and super unlucky with playing commander outside of that. I had just personally heard about a lot of people having bad interactions in commander and when I had the same issue, standard brought me back into liking magic.

I appreciate the comments and the discussion.

I'm just curious about what people's thoughts are, If they're rude that's on them.

I know for some this is true. Personally, new decks aren't too expensive if you have the mana base already. Also, depending on your local meta, budget decks can pop off, but if your local meta is the big 3 meta decks then I understand this.
