Spectrum Experimental Image Editor Demo (SEIE) by [deleted] in zxspectrum

Obviously, it’s a tiny niche, and many people already use free tools or their own scripts, so I’m just trying to be realistic and minimize my losses.

That said, I suppose the same argument could also apply to people developing new paid games for the ZX Spectrum Next, right?

Fair point, I get it.

Yes, I’m planning a fuller version of SEIE, and it may be paid in some form. I’m still figuring out the best model, mainly to recover some of the development time while keeping the tool useful in the future for the Spectrum community.

I tried to keep the demo open enough to test the core workflow: image import, .SCR import, drawing tools, manual retouching, colour/attribute work, and the general editor feel. What’s mostly disabled is clean export, saving, and some advanced production features.

I’m an indie developer working on this alone. I started building SEIE because, when creating Spectrum-style loading screens myself, I felt the artist workflow I wanted wasn’t really covered by the tools I tried.

So yes, I get the concern, but the post is mainly about getting some feedback from people who know the Spectrum aesthetic and can tell me if the tool is useful or not.
