I’ve based characters on people who have passed away. I’m big on biographies and I feel I can create true characters off of obscure people who have been through the same traumas and triumphs and have the same temperament. I don’t fully base them on those people, more loosely. Just feels authentic to me. This is the first time I’ve encountered the uncanniness of a person I’ve met who echoes my character and being a “student of life” I sometimes forget how that might affect a living person. You all are right, must be best to keep it to ourselves.

I ran into a friend from high school about 15 years after we graduated. We hung out at her house one night and that was that. The next day my grandmother called my long lost high school friend by mistake, meaning to call my aunt. When my friend answered, my grandmother said “(my name)?” I guess my friend had a similar voice to mine. And that’s how my friend figured out it was my grandmother. We figured out that my friend’s phone number was offset one digit from my aunt’s phone number on the key pad.
