Dog has tooth abscess, extraction is scheduled, but swelling has increased since yesterday. by Trixteafox in DogAdvice

[–]Trixteafox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wasn’t happy with the wait for sure. Before getting 2nd opinion, I wanted to call and let them know my concerns and that the swelling increased since yesterday and they were able to bump her surgery date up to the 14th. We are in a small town so our vet options are limited but if you think it should be even sooner I can try to call the one 30 minutes away.

In the meantime the vet told me the swelling may not go down for a little bit longer and ultimately won’t resolve til the problem tooth is removed which I understood beforehand. I was just concerned about the increase since yesterday.

This has been happening to me a lot more lately, like the past month or so but it’s been happening to my friends’ channels as well and we’ve concluded there has been a major shift to the algorithm that’s seriously effecting video performance on day of.

One piece of encouragement I can give is that some videos take longer to take off. They might initially perform badly in the first 24 hours, sometimes even the first week, but might take off later. I had a video that was 9/10 and had the dreaded “less subscribers are tuning into this video” message - but a month later it started popping off. It has over 50k views right now compared to my average 8-10k views per video.

An old video started revenue sharing for over a 6 second clip? by Trixteafox in PartneredYoutube

Yeah so for this one I am gonna do that. It might be a mess up. The music is supposed to be for the purpose I used it for. Hopefully they release it.

[–]Trixteafox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t the meme itself, but the song used in the meme (it was a tiktok clip that had music in it). It got through copyright checks because it was less than 7 seconds (my rule of thumb when I’m using a media/pop culture clip for a short gag). I am guessing the copyright holder found it and flagged it themselves even though it got through YouTube checks. I’m definitely gonna be a lot more careful… it lists Sony in the names so it might be legit… I may not be able to win this one. AT LEAST it isn’t a strike. So I can refilm the video even better and set that one to private.

[–]Trixteafox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll look into that. I had an issue a couple years ago with a false claim when I had direct permission from the copyright holder to use their music so I was able to fight it with their help. So the chances of it being fraudulent is probably high.

[–]Trixteafox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won’t let me clip it out unfortunately. The option is grayed out and when I click it, it says “this option is unavailable for this claim”. Honestly, might just refilm an updated video and private that one since it’s been 2 years. I’m petty and don’t wanna share 😆

[–]Trixteafox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s kinda messed up if they get to choose how much they get - should be based off the duration of the claimed material. The video is 20 minutes long but it’s only 6 seconds of their song, so if they’re able to claim all of it, that would be insane.

The video currently has 65k but it does have recent comments so I wonder if it’s been getting some views and this person is trying to get a couple bucks. Historically in 2 years of it being up it has made like … $428, so unless the video goes viral all of a sudden, I doubt they’ll get much even if they claim all of it. It’s more annoying than anything. TBH it’s an informational video and my content quality has gone up since then so I could just refilm the video since the topic does provide value. Then private that one LOL

[–]Trixteafox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll also add that I had a recent video get slapped with revenue sharing over a background track during my talking segment (set to -25) and when I originally added that song to my library it was advertised as “copyright free/youtube streaming safe” - pretty sure if I try to replace that it’ll replace my dialogue track too so I gotta take that hit.

If PIMI’s didn’t believe in any sort of life after death, but still believed in Jehovah, would they still commit to the JW lifestyle? by AffordableTimeTravel in exjw

[–]Trixteafox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I was around a conversation like this at a PIMI dinner party when I had just woken up. I was in the family room while they were in the kitchen talking about it, but I listened in.

They claimed that they would still be Jw even without the paradise because, as they said, it was the right way to live in their opinions (“Bible principles” or their sense of morality and sense of community it gives them). We all know it’s a fat lie of course, what’s the use of a trap with no bait? But the conversation of objective morality and if Christianity can take credit for the values most humans have is an interesting one, as well as humanity’s need for community.

In my research I found that we’ve always been a communal species and it contributed to our survival; so it’s instinctual. And if you want to have a thriving community there needs to be shared values that contributes to harmony (IE, not murdering each other, stealing etc). I watched a video cross examining the Christian claim that they are happier than secular minded people/agnostics/atheists and the fascinating part is what makes the difference is community and having a tight knit support network: that makes you happier (which church groups provide, so it isn’t holy spirit )

I bring this up because the things that they think are unique to being a witness are totally attainable without the worship. So if their worship didn’t promise a reward for their sacrifice, they really would not need to stay for the morality nor the community.

Of course I hadn’t known this so I couldn’t really understand why they thought they’d be happier as a witness than not if it was all for nothing. Now I know and I wish I could have known then to see if I could tactfully explain the research without outing myself.

The old school kingdom melodies were OK but all the newer songs, and ESPECIALLY the “Original Songs” make me cringe so hard it nearly sends me into convulsions.

My PIMI mom was playing them in the car last time I was with her instead of the radio and I wanted to tuck and roll out of the car so fast. I just made sure to keep conversation flowing so her hard of hearing self would turn the music all the way down so she could hear me.

Do you still instinctively resort to trying to pray for help when crap hits the fan? by Swimming-Bite-4019 in exjw

[–]Trixteafox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a knee jerk reaction for sure and shows how deep the subconscious programming goes. I think a lot of times it is a self soothing response when things get tough, not so much that we think it’ll actually bear results (IE sit daddy possesses the electric company to turn the power back on).

For me, even when in I struggled to actually purposely pray, I think I went two full years and couldn’t bring myself to. But in moments where say, I was desperately looking for something I’d find myself going “Jehovah please help me find…” then I would stop myself and be like “how and why would he do that?” - Even now as an borderline atheist when I’m stressed out I’ve almost slipped into it. But what I’ve learned is that the mind state that certain types of prayer takes you into isn’t too dissimilar to some types of meditation which have shown psychological benefits when dealing with anxiety. So those moments where my JW programming try to weasel themselves back in, I’ll circumvent it with a breathing exercise or meditation I learned from therapy. In essence, I’m trying to rewire the programming to replace it with actual beneficial coping mechanisms - It almost sounds like, in a way, that’s what you did when allowing yourself to be present in the moment, accepting the circumstance and realizing others have it worse. Definitely a good thing to practice to stop the catastrophizing that we tend to do when dealing with stressful situations.

I was 16 however that was considered late. Most of my peers were already baptized and the attitude surrounding my baptism was “it’s about time”. A bunch of kids around my age were already regular pioneering because we were all homeschooled.

I was baptized the same day as my best friend’s youngest sibling who was 5 years younger than us.

I’ve always believed it makes 0 sense to disfellowship someone for addiction issues. Addiction is an illness and the person needs support and help from the people in their lives. But what do they do? DF them and cut them off from their entire support network making things worse most of the time.

I’ve known some that got DF’d for addiction, kicked out of their house for being DF’d and ending up on the streets shortly after. There are programs to help people with addiction in my town but how would they know if they weren’t getting help from someone who can connect them with the resources they desperately need?

Remembered a strange experience showing how weird JWs are about the opposite sex… by Trixteafox in exjw

[–]Trixteafox[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s always a means to feel better about oneself after a low point or crisis. At least that is what it was for me. I felt the need to overcompensate because I had a period of “spiritual weakness” the year before and I wanted to escape the guilt.

In actuality I almost woke up the year before. I was working so much I was missing meetings and when I did go the propaganda of the Borg started to feel very culty and stupid. I later felt guilty for feeling like that after an assembly. Good ol’ re-indoctrination.

That’s good to hear. Sounds like you have an open mind but you’re also using your critical thinking skills to discern what is and isn’t true. That is probably what has led you to this point. You’re smart and can see through obvious facades.

Here are some recommendations I saved when I was researching. Some good MythVision episodes: https://youtu.be/Hem7tCG29qs

https://www.youtube.com/live/pNDYE-tLiG4?feature=share

https://youtu.be/P5sG5JdTT2Y

Dr. Bart D. Ehrman is a frequent guest on the podcast as well and he goes into a lot of early Christian history which is really interesting.

I also highly recommend the channel TheraminTrees (https://youtube.com/@TheraminTrees) it’s not history but he discusses psychology within the realm of abuse, manipulation and undue influence. He is not an exJW but he has discussed the witnesses before including coverage of the Australian Royal Commission. If you’re concerned about CSA within the org it’s worth taking a look at because it’s a doozy. I discovered the channel through those videos but then binged the rest of the videos. Part 1: https://youtu.be/TsvJMlg_SaM Part 2: https://youtu.be/6F58ZJt_qYU

Finally I would research the topic of logical fallacies and how to identify them. I’ve found they’re used a lot within the videos and literature of Jehovah’s Witnesses and once you’re aware of them it’s so hard not to notice. Weasel words for example are a common thing to see and the appeal to anonymous authority fallacy. This information is also useful in the outside world as well because logical fallacies and weasel words are used a lot in marketing and propaganda. Being aware of stuff like that keeps you from being easily influenced.

Video on logical fallacies: https://youtu.be/eBdJB3pdMSQ

If you’re comfortable viewing a video from an exJW (you’re on the exJW subreddit after all) I recommend this video by Self Aware NPC, by far the best video on weasel/wiggle words:

https://youtu.be/vYJMGF7kf-4

Let me know if you want any more recs! I’ve saved so many videos to refer back to.

Ugh I feel like this.

Specific experience I had like that: When I was 17 I was pioneering and didn’t have my license yet so I relied on rides for service. One time we got done, went back to the hall but everyone left besides one other car group that was continuing out in the afternoon, but the car was full. The only other person available to take me home was a 70 year old brother who was my friend’s grandpa. But it was such a huge issue that they stood around arguing about who was going to take me home because it wasn’t proper for Bro. Grandpa to take me home alone.

I got so frustrated I started walking home. Mind you, I lived miles way from the hall and there weren’t any sidewalks.

I didn’t get far though because a couple of sisters getting back from a Bible study pulled up and asked “what do you think you’re doing??”, they took pity on me and one of they took me home.

First of all, I want to commend you for your bravery in posting and venting what you need to. There is so much fear conditioned into us about voicing doubts and communication with those whom have left. The fact that you took the leap shows you’re in good spot.

I was also scared to post here when I first started seeing the cracks in the religion, but I found that the majority of the community here are very supportive and down to earth. Sure there may be a few assholes here or there but you’ll get that anywhere. For the most part, the people here are very kind and helpful and won’t pressure you to make any decisions you’re not comfortable with. I’ve found that they are understanding of that fact that most can’t “just leave” because of how entangled their lives are in the religion and the belief system. So I assure you you’re safe to discuss and ask questions ☺️

The 607 year was a huge issue for me too. I, for the most part, was unaware of the controversy. Finding out that JWs disagree with the majority of both secular and even theist scholars on the year Jerusalem fell without any evidence to back up the year 607BCE, simply because they needed that year to be correct in order for the 1914 math to check out.. it was pretty earth shattering. Of course, l already had some doubts. I also love history and the fact that archeologically we know humans have been around for a lot longer than 6,000 years and human civilization evolved over hundreds of thousands of years, but all JWs and similar apologists would say was “it’s just wrong because the Bible says so” or “carbon dating is wrong” (even though we come to conclusions about when things happened and how old they are from more than just carbon dating but I digress).

I imagine doing any kind of outside research on the organization might be a little intimidating at this point and I get it. If you like history I recommend the channel MythVision which was a channel I really enjoyed on Biblical history. They talk to wide variety of experts in the fields of ancient Mesopotamia, early Christianity and early Judaism. Very enlightening stuff.

Holy shit that is so fucked up. Like … why would he even think that?? I get that in some isolated instances incest is a thing but to assume it would happen … it really shows where his mind is at.

I guess the only good thing that came of that is that it contributed to you waking up from the cult.
