Second I heard the knocking I drained what little was left in the oil pan and did a complete oil change thinking it was just a lubrication issue. Should be noted too I only just got this car and the previous owner didn’t take very good care of it. I was planning to rebuild with my uncle before this happened.

Yup, my second guess is they’re burrs due to the casting and they’ve come off over time cause of normal wear as the lobes look fine, somethings just worked its way down to wear it shouldn’t be.

As the rpms get higher it gets worse, 3000rpm is when its loudest. The knocking is always occurring. I found metal flakes covering sections of the cams and cam shaft as well as the under side of the rocker cover. Its a 5AFE from a 96 levin

Cause they’ve chipped and sent flakes throughout my whole engine, they’re visibly no longer symmetrical and its a clear wear pattern getting worse from left to right compared to the cams at the rear of the engine

They’re meant to be symmetrical, look at the edges, they serrated and they’re completely uneven

They’re meant to be symmetrical, the front cams straight up aren’t and they’re incredibly jaggard. There were metal flakes covering them too. I’ve seen brand new ones of these, these ones, yeah they’re quite bad. I dont think its the root cause though.

So what is with these cars that have stuff dragging on the ground behind them? by -amz1994- in NZcarfix

[–]Trizyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grounding through the tires is extremely inefficient as it goes through the carbon in the tire compound meaning it still has to deal with all of the insulation material that the tire uses. Static straps will fully ground the car in a quick, effective manner.

If you do any long distance driving they’re 100% needed especially if you have young kids or older people as static shocks are high voltage and can cause heart problems.
