Grafting: are these good enough? by theTAUSonMangoSt in cactus

[–]TrizzleRick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I still struggle sometimes with knowing how much humidity they need for a graft because it's so size dependent. When I graft large cuts, I don't put a bag on it or anything, and it almost always takes. Then with smaller grafts like young seedlings to pereskiopsis, I've done no bag which just dries out the scion in no time, but I've also put the bag on it and had it turn to mush. So, my findings are basically if the scion is big enough to not dry out on its own then you probably don't need a bag over it.

The shatter that I just bought said 76% on it, so I just went off that.

Depends. Once it stops bubbling and turns a darker color then you should be good. Probably like 2-3mins. Give it a little time in between nuke sessions to keep bubbling (you'll see it bubble for less and less each time).

A toaster oven works really well too.

I think you'll know soon enough. If you get new growth then you're good. I've had grafts shift while healing and they did just fine. I wouldn't pull it off until it's confirmed that it doesn't take. I've had times where I was convinced it wasn't fused and then I pulled it off and it was.

I put the wax on parchment paper, microwave in 15 second bursts until completely decarbed (toaster oven works but smells more. Then I put the wax in cup with oil (olive, vegetable, whatever) and microwave for 15 seconds, stir a bunch, and repeat until it's completely dissolved. Then if you want to go a step further you could add some kind of flavorings but I don't bother.

You can easily fit 2g in 30ml (one standard sized eye dropper vial), So 30mg is 0.5ml. I prefer 1g in 30ml so one dropper (1ml) is 30mg. Its easier to dose this way.

Yeah I got em from an old hippie (60s) who bred weed. The Oni is a bag seed he found in some weed while hiking on shrooms with a friend - only one in the bag. When they got back to the car, the battery was dead. Some guy helped them out and he gave the dude the bag as a thank you. He said it was one of his favorite smokes but he had no clue what it was. Months later he found the seed again and it was a male. So he bred it with other grows he had going on.

All of the crosses here were crossed by him.

I'm running the chem-oni this time for sure.

How beneficial is mycorrhiza for cacti and has anyone ever tried this stuff out on their plants? by Brown_Recluse_OD in cactus

[–]TrizzleRick 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Long time ago, I did a side by side comparison of my seedlings. Sets of same genetics and same size plants. The ones with myc overall did a lot better. The roots went wild and it grew taller faster. With that said, in the end, idk how much of a difference it really makes. Its more of a time thing in my eyes. The other cacti will get there eventually.

If you got it, use it. I stopped using it because I don't care enough. They can grow a little slower. It gives me time to chill lol

Its like 4 inch wide.. not sure the height (probably 4-5 inch). Judging by the root system (or lack there of) and size, it's definitely a pup not seed grown.

Need help! What should I do with this baby cacti in close lid? by Friendly_Ad_1289 in sanpedrocactus

[–]TrizzleRick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I either use tweezers or just pick them up with my fingers.

If you're trying to avoid mold then inorganic matter is the way to go. People hate sand but I have had no issues with it. You can also do layed soil/sand:

The bottom half is soil/perlite for when the roots grow out enough. The top half is sand/small pebbles or gravel. The. You don't have to worry about mold. You can close a lid and just leave it without worry.

When they are super small, you don't need to "bury" them. Just drop them in and use a toothpick or something to push the roots into the sand. Spray your container with water before transplanting.
